what are mets? I think that is the right word. This is the readout you see on the excercise machines, i.e., treadmill, elliptical, etc. How does it relate to the workout? What is it measuring and how what information is it giving you? I plead ignorance of this term.

Here is a definition from an article I found. Hope this helps.
A metabolic equivalent, or MET, is defined as the amount of oxygen used by an average seated person. Two METs is very roughly equivalent to walking less than 2 mph; 5 METs to walking at 4 mph; and 8 METs to jogging at 6 mph. -------------- \\"Knowledge & persistence is all one needs to succeed\"\ ---Patrick L. |

Hey...that's stuff confusin who would want to take the time to learn all that stuff...
I can see it know Hurry up Joe. -why Cause we've been runin for three minutes -so what's your point Bob Well in order to maintain a fat burning level of 25% one has to keep his MET at an above average number 8.123. for the duration of 3 and 1/2 minutes. -So what's your point Bob Jeez nerds should not be allowed around fitness equipment. -------------- Diet- Only take what you need...There is no fine line between want and need, there is the whole continent of South America.~Dick |

Glad I could help. As far as the nerd comment that was made by richardjst, remember that the majority of fitness equipment would never have been invented if not for nerds trying to find a better way. Gyms would simply be filled with big sticks & large rocks & have a place on the wall for people to hang their clubs. It is crucial for natural athletes to become educated in order to break the current perceptions of what is "naturally" possible. Only through increased knowledge can we change the sad state that professional bodybuilding has become & emerge with new, healthy champions.

Hey richard, you should probably watch your mouth when you are on these boards. An ignorant person such as yourself would not know something like this, because you have no background or education in the health and fitness field. I know that plfitness does since he is working on his cert and I have a college background and a cert. as well. METS are basic knowledge to people who work in the health and fitness field. But, just coming out of high school and all, I wouldn't expect you to be much more intelligent than you are making yourself out to be.

Ohhh, a college smart azz. You know I see plenty of trainers out there...plenty at my gym even I wouldn't waste a dime on, on the account that they are less healthy tnan I at the ripe old age of 18. How do you really now someone on the internet, you would be smart enough to know that they could be lyin', or are you??? You know how easy it is to get a cert., and how much easier it is to say you are getting one. For all I know you could be a 300lb. pervert. I'm going into something a little higher than you mr. smarty pants. And will get a cert on the side. And also if you would actually read into the context of what I said it was ment to be funny, not mean...I would expect that coming from such a smart guy like you. Guess I was wrong.-------------- Diet- Only take what you need...There is no fine line between want and need, there is the whole continent of South America.~Dick |

Lets keep it in the context of good nature ribbing. Let's not get postal! But I agree with plfitness that you should become informed know and attempt to understand some of the things that you are doing. Don't take everything at face value. I'm not a nerd but I do have a BS in Biological Sciences and supervise a clinical chemistry lab.

Simmer down now, simmer down....PRETTY RUDE COMMENTS THERE DAHAYZ. Richy didn't mean no harm, pretty funny, but he does arise a could point here in fitness, that without facts one is lost. Also richard is right in that it is relatively easy to get a cert. many people have them that shouldn't. They become to involved in things like Mets, and not involved enough in their clients workouts. Training does not need to be all scientific, only when one reaches high levels of training such as Mr. Olympia, Mr. Universe, strongman comps. do they need every scientific advantage they can get. Don't be ignorant yourself dahayz, for as old and smart as you claim yourself to be, that was very irresponsible and rude of you.

I'm not going to try to impart wisdom on anyone as a 23 year old, but richard, things are going to change A LOT for you in the next few years.
