Hi all,
I searched for this on Fit Buddy, but didn't have much success in finding what I was looking for. If someone can point me to a link, that would be just ducky.
I know there are various lifting schemes like Pyramids, Rev. Pyramids, and more I suppose?
What I am looking for is what are the major ones out there and what is the purpose/focus that one would pick a certain scheme over another for?

This might help...go to top of page, click on "fitness resources" button, then find the general fitness tools category. Under there click on "trainng principals" and other categories. You should find what you are looking for.

Hmmmm - I checked out those resources and it still really didn't cover the whys. Why would one use on approach or another.
Say I have 3 sets I want to do.
Why would I do them like:
12x100, 10x120, 8x140
-or-
12x120, 12x120, 12x120
-or-
12x100, 10x140, 12x80
What's the advantages/disadvantages to the different approaches?

Use them all at one time or another. One won't necessarily do more than the other. Change is key. I get better results with reverse pyramids but that is not necessarily true for all. The FT plans for the most part pyramids. I think incorporating as many schemes as possible is best. You're in this for the long haul. Try them all and see what is best for you.

12x100, 10x120, 8x140 this is a normal pyramid. It is used to increase mass and strength. Why? Well the first set you are at your strongest. Common sense says that you should lift heavier. YOu can but by "tricking the body into lifting heavier weights as it gets tired increases the muscle building effect.
12x120, 12x120, 12x120 Using this one in my opinion will do nothing really since the body will not be forced to grow. It only gorws if you keep forcing it to handle heavier workloads.
12x100, 10x140, 12x80 this is a reverse pyramid. I use it for a shock from time to time. I really never plan to use it till I am at the gym, then something tells me that this is what to do. Like Charlie said try them all out and see what works for you.

I couldn't break a bench press plateau once and reverse pyramids for 3 weeks and 3 weeks of drop sets let me add 15 lbs. My bis and tris really respond to dropsets. Dumbell exercises also helped my bench a great deal.
We did an FT challange a while back. The competition was based on deadlifts, bench and squats for percentage of gains. I only did those 3 lifts and had huge gains. I tried that after reading Gatormades tips in the lifting forum. Change is the name of the game. Don't let your muscles know what your plan is. Shock and surprise is da bom.:big_smile:

Thats INTENSE! I'm definitely not ready for something like that yet. I like the principles. Seems like one could apply those to almost everything.
