Couple of questions.

When I jog, I get tired really fast. My side aches and i'm out of breath-- and start sweating very fast.

When I do the elliptical bike (with very high resistance) my side never aches, rarely do I have to catch my breath, and it takes longer for me to start sweating.

Why is this? I thought that the bike would be better/harder because it has resistance, but why don't I get as tired?

Is jogging better?

jogging is just physically harder.. like running on a treadmill vs. running outside. propelling your body forward under your own power is hard!. Try walking and adding sprint intervals. Jogging can be hard on your joints. walking Ang sprinting will get you heart rate up and may be easier on your joints because you tend to use a longer, smoother stride.

The bike (elliptical bike?unsure on that definition) or elliptical trainer won't be as taxing on your joints, but should still get your heart rate into the zone you desire. you don't really want to be out of breath when you exercise - you should be breathing hard, but able to speak, if you are breathless you are overexerting and not gaining any new fitness, fatiguing your heart and generally not helping your body in any manner. Exercise in a zone that is moderately hard.

Thanks, that makes sense. I thought it was called an elliptical bike, maybe it's just called an excercise bike.

I've been reading the FAQ and have come up with a couple more questions,

For an obese person, would it be better to do a 5 day workout with weights in the morning and cardio in the evening? Or better to do weights one day and cardio the next? If I did the latter, that'd only be a 3 or so days of cardio, where 5 is recommended for weight loss.

that would depend on how you divide up the lifts - there is a plan here for doing 5 days week & if you followed that then I would go for the wieghts in the morning & cardio at night
