Alison,
You are right to focus on the tape measure and not the scale. a muscular 130 looks and feels very different than a flabby 130.
I am going to send you an emeail and we will figure out what you need to do to see some results.

Hey guys,
Love the information that is being shared and given out. I just have one question. Is there really an "optimal" time frame in which you should be doing cardio? I heard mornings but if I do the cardio training in the evening after work, does it become counterproductive or useless? I want to start burning away unneeded calories and fat but if I do it in the evening, will it affect my ability to lose those caloties and fat?

Null,
Losing weight has more to do with diet. Of course cardio will help, but diet is the key.

my diet is clean, although i was a little low in protein....which is fixed now. i train hard three days a week....
i don't want to run...never could get into it...
and i wonder what would happen if i were to stay on the program i eat now..which is lean protein, complex carbs...good fats....i weigh 129 lbs...down from 180 a year and a half ago.....and keep on hitting the weights hard and stop cardio for a bit....
i'm so frustrated right now.

I am absolutley amazed at this whole concept. It took me a year to build up to an hour and fifteen minutes hard/fast cardio at the gym. I was really proud of myself, but not loosing one single pound (even though I've cut my calories to 1300 a day). I'm hitting the weights...HARD! :dumbbell:

You have to understand that it is not fat burned during the cardio as most folks look at it, but what happens 'betweeen' sessions...this is where changes are actually made. Any training you do is simply a stiumulus for bodily adaptations to take place.

I recently joined the gym. I was told the thing I want to work on is cardio. I have been going elliptical machine for about 40 min and 20 min on the treadmill. I have also been using weights and various machines for my legs and arms on alternate days. Should I do less cardio and more weights?

in a short roundabout way yes, but it depends on your goals

If weight loss is your goal, it is calorie expenditure you are after. How you accomplish this is your perrogative. However, just do it! If you are 'heavier', of course predominately fat will be used as a fuel source. However, this is still negligible in the big picture. What you do BETWEEN sessions has much more impact. The session whether elliptical, treadmill, whatever will maybe use 300 calories or a bit more. Think of one meal...it is normally way upwards of 500-1000 calories if you eat like you used to. Start to get the picture?
