Try to make your snacks of the fatty variety. Like nuts, such as walnuts(very good omega 3-6 ratio), almonds, pecans. Macadamias are great in monosaturated fats. Limit them of course to an ounce or so. The reason for fat type snacks is no impact on blood sugars, plus healthy efa's.

Let's try and keep the two new forums as serious as possible. Thank you, Ron, for setting the right example.

Don't be surprised if you see many deleted posts. These forums deal with serious matters and will be strictly moderated.

A word on chocolate...there are many reasons it is craved. When feeling down, it contains phenylethylamine, a chemical that may raise endorpins levels in the brain. Other cocoa chemicals , such as theobromine and caffine can help with alertness. And others stimulate the cannabinoid receptors in the brain, making us feel good. Chocolate has wonderful properties though, with dark chocolate being much better than milk chocolate. The dark contains more antioxidants and therefore more flavinoids. Chocolate can actually help your odds against cardiovascualr disease, by reducing blood clotting and ease vessel restriction. I use chocolate for these properties on a daily basis, I use real dark chocolate powder mix, and mix one tbsp. in my protein drinks, or brew a cup. Chocolate actually has more antioxidant power than your glass of wine, and right there with green tea. Using chocolate sparingly can be a great part of a healthy diet.

Much like coffee, isn't it, bb1?

That explains why my fiber bars are coated in dark chocolate. I always wondered why they would use chocolate for a product that's supposed to make you slimmer! :surprised:

My apologies, Adrian. I just got tickled after reading the, "...and I'm fat..." post so I was in a comedic mood. But Ron turned my silly post into an education :) Very cool, thanks for the info Ron.

Also, since it should be appropriate here, I take green tea supplements with some form of caffeine; heart and thermogenic effects, but I had NO idea chocolate was in there anywhere. Wow.

Ron , I have been adding Hersheys unsweetened cocoa to my shakes for flavor. This has antioxident and other health benefits as well??

If it is real dark cocoa, unsweetened, then yes. I have never bought hershesys, but read the ingrdients. Many cocoa powder products are treated with alkaline solutions to raise pH level(making it easier to control the color and flavor). This is called Dutching. You don't want this.

That is too cool. I have been only using it now and then figuring that if I tastes that good, it had to be bad!!:surprised: Hershey lable reads unsweetened cocoa and says nothing about additives. Also only .5 g of fat:big_smile:

Oh, that's too bad! I got so excited but I always use Dutch cocoa! It makes the best Splenda hot chocolate, boo hoo.
