Way to go mystic!
KC-72....if your finding your neck, back and legs are hurting during your crunches, your form is wrong. You're going to injure yourself if you keep doing them the way you are. The only place you should feel the "burn" is in your abs. keep your shoulders relaxed and lightly support your head. Keep the movement small and your abs tight. Have someone check your form. -------------- Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there. |

I know fly...I look pathetic when I try to do them!!But I really have NO strength in my stomach!!!I can barely get my head off the floor unless I use every other muscle I've got.I've tried reading on the proper way to do them and I just can't manage.Should I just go with barely getting my head up until I get stronger? What would be a good starting rep number??Thanks!!
Sorry to but in on your thread Mystic...but now I'm inspired!!:) -------------- There are no rewards in life for having brains, only using them! |

KC you dont need to get your head off the floor alot to do proper crunches..lay on your back with your fingertips touching the back of your head, knees bent...lift your head slightly, with your chin pointing up..go up count 2 secs go down....thats how I do mine
Here is my ab workout.I do circuit training-30 sec rest ONLY between each exercise..remember to BREATHE! Week one-Do ONE CIRCUIT only 1.Raised leg crunches-15 2.Bent Knee ins-8 reps each side 3.Oblique crunches-15 4.Bridge-15 secs each side 5.Lower Back Extensions-15 Week 2- Do ONE CIRCUIT Only 1.Tradtional Crunch-15 2.Bent Knee Leg Raises-12 3.Bent Knee Obliques-12(these hurt!) 4.Bridge-15 Secs each side 5.Lower Back extensions-15 Week 3 DO TWO CIRCUITS OF week 1 exercises Week 4 Do TWO CIRCUITS OF week 2 exercises Week 5 Do THREE CIRCUITS OF week 1 exercises Week 6 Do THREE CIRCUITS OF week 2 exercises |

Ok Mystic!!!I started today...I think I will need a week or two of practice...had to laugh at myself doing that bridge,I was wobbeling all over the place! That one little tip of pointing my chin to the ceiling made a world of difference!I realized it should have been a no brainer when I did it but I really hadn't thought of it!!Thanks so much...love all your posts!-------------- There are no rewards in life for having brains, only for using them! |

KC...good for you!! of course its gonna take time for you to build reps and strength...
As for the crunches..alot of people still think you need to go ALL the way to your knees to work the abs properly..but thats just wasted energy...The whole trick is to work the abs with slow, precise movements...and iam sure now that you are doing it correctly, you can really feel it right? Keep at it!!!:) |

Oh for sure..make sure you are breathing right when doing any ab exercise, holding your breath will tense you too much and make it more painful..If you are finding that after a few reps,it really hurts, stop take a good deep breath and continue...

These ab exercises are still pretty awful for me!!!It takes ALOT of concentration for me to focus on my abs and not strain my neck or back.Doesn't seem like it should be so diificult.I'm really working on technique and breathing right now, don't think I'm doing much for my abs right now, that's why it's so hard for me to stick it out.But I'm trying everyday.I remember when I started pushups,I could only do 5,now I can do 50,so I know I just have to keep at it.Thanks for the encouragement Mystic!!-------------- There are no rewards in life for having brains, only for using them! |
