Hey, I am new to this forum. I have posted all or most of my posts in the powerlifting forum. Anyway, I just wanted to know if anybody knows any ways to improve lung strength. I don't really have any significant reason for wanting to but i feel my lungs are too weak. I don't smoke but i get a lot of second hand smoke from my mom and my friends. I can only hold my breath for like a minute tops. I will do some research on it myself but if anyone knows anything, please respond. :):):)

ok i just did some research. I should have done some before posting the question but whatever. Anyway I found that aerobic excercises improve lung capacity. I guess this would mean that your lungs are stronger if they can store more oxygen, I dunno; I'm kind of confused. However, this is not exactly what i was looking for. I was kind of looking for excercises or anything that are made for specifically making the lungs strongeror allowing you to be able to hold your breath for a longer time.

Cardiovascular exercise will increase your bodies ability to process and utilize oxygen.

Swimming is a great way to improve lunge compacity. A drill we do in swimming is to breath every 3, 5, 7 or 9 strokes while doing freestyle. Breathing every 3 is the norm, but it's pretty tough to maintain swimming a length only breathing every 9. Over time, it definitely improves your ability to hold your breath.
