I'm just curious because it sounds like each of you use different supplements.
I know Robert is using Creatine, Whey, and Animal Stak.
Leslie mentioned Amino?
Nina has mentioned anything.
Neither has Arnold.
But I was in GNC yesterday and it's enough to make your head spin. I'm currently using creatine, whey, and animal cuts, but when is it too much? I can see the value in all of them, but I can also see how easy it is to be taking 6-7 supplements a day. Do you folks just take different ones depending on what particular task you're trying to acheive at the time?

Cain, you just have to know the basics. These are creatine, protein powder, multivitamins and glutamine. Anything above these aid in areas such as recovery, sleep, meal replacement, overcoming a plateau, etc.

Stick with what has worked for you and only try something after you've done a fair amount of research. There is no wonder drug out there (at least those that are legal without much side effects) that will give you muscles overnight. And, there are a lot of snake oils out there...so be careful.

Cool thanks. One of the things I was thinking of adding is L-Glutamine. I just really want to know what most of you folks use.

It sounds like alot of guys are spending some big bucks on supplements. I did some surfing on the web and found a generic form of Cell Tech called Hyper Cell by Schwartz Labs that's working pretty good for me. Check it out schwartzlabs.com, but I found it really cheap on yahoo. How much does that animal stak or cuts cost?

I answered this in the other topic. Animal stak is about the same price I believe. They all vary in quantity. Go to universalnutrition.com

Hi guys, I eat a lot of pills every single day..... BUT my pills are calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium, all the vitamines, fish oil, chromium, zinc...... And not to forget my glutamine and three protein shakes daily.

I just make sure that I have all the needed micro nutritions and proteins etc and I feel fiiiiine.

You don't always have to buy those expensive products to gain results, often it's simple a question about basics.

Hi. I was told by my physician that even if your a sportsperson taking a multivitamin supplement continuosly is not good. Cycling, Ive been told, has to be applied to that too. Anyone knows anything about this?

I think that's a matter of opinion. Multivitamins only give you what your body doesn't get through eating the various food groups. My physician recommends taking a daily multivitamin...without mentioning anything about cycling.

well yes, I guess its just an opinion anyway, cos Ive been taking multivitamins for 5 years continuously now .. :)))
no big deal.
By the way Robert, can a weight gain powder actually help put on muscle or not? So far most of my caloric intake has come from "whole", normal foods (pasta, rice, potatoes, turkey, tuna, beef, bla bla..).

Francs, weight gain powders don't work for everyone. You'll get varied results and for me, the taste is horrid. Stick with normal foods to gain weight...there's nothing more natural or better that food!

It's the brand, Cain! Switch and you'll notice a big difference. Oh, and stick with plain vanilla flavor.

While we're on the subject...does anyone have any opinions about the taste of "Simply Protein" by EAS or Optimum Nutritions "100% Whey Protein"? I like chocolate flavors.

EAS Simply Whey Protein vanilla cream flavor tastes pretty good! I would definitely recommend it! I'm not a chocolate-flavor fan...

Now see, I actually can't stand chocolate. I never eat the stuff. Women all think I'm nuts because I hate chocolate. I absolutely love french vanilla. But I have never found a supplement that tastes good. It never tastes like vanilla, and the chocolate never tastes like chocolate. But the bad tasting chocolate is better than the bad tasting vanilla in most cases, so I tend to stick to choc.

Never could handle the fruit tasting stuff either. Slim fast makes a soy supplement that is all fruit flavors. It has got to be horrible.

Thx Robert for ur suggestion on weight gaining. I am taking a whey protein as well, but just after workouts and before sleep. As you mentioned, I am mostly sticking to "normal" food for a caloric intake leading to weight gain.

I think protein powders are icky. I've tried Designer Whey in chocolate, it was bearable. Then I tried an EAS brand, called something with an HP, and felt like throwing up afterwards. I stopped by GNC the other day to find another brand. The GNC guy was trying to sell me the GNC brand, but I ended up getting pro blend 55, which smells pretty bad but tastes pretty bland, which is good enough for me. =)

I've had Pro Blend 55 in the past, it's pretty expensive stuff at only 13 servings a container. Around $1.80-$2.50 per serving depending on where you buy it. Has 55 grams protein per serving (lots) compared to the usual powder of 20-25 grams that you take 2-3 times daily. EAS is about .40 cents a serving (from netrition.com). I find that mixing with 1% or skim milk can make the taste fuller. I'm starting to think there arn't any protein powders out there that actually taste good.

Actually, the best tasting powder (if you don't mind paying for it) is MuscleTech's Nitro-Tech. Either the vanilla or strawberry flavor mixes well and tastes great. If you want to sample, buy one of those bars at GNC.

Hmmmm ... I was curious about that (taking extra vitamins on top of a multi). I seem to be consistently low in iron & calcium and was thinking of additional supplementation (I'm also really tired, which could be the low iron).

Should I consider iron pills ... or just add another rest day??

Well you cannot really know if you need extra vitamines before you have a blood test taken........

What you can do thou is to put in all your food into a nutrition analyzer (like here at Freetrainers) and see what is says -if you need any more vitamines etc.

It's not evident, but ever since I started taking all those pills I haven't been ill or anything. Oh yes I'm still tired from all the training and my competition diet but I guess that's rather normal......

Hey Quads, being female I believe there are supplements that are important to take over and above the Multi Vitamin/ Mineral. I take additional Vitamin C, B Complex, Calcium/Magnesium and when I feel rundown additional iron.
I had one minor cold in the last year. I also take Glutamine in the morning(with the V-C) and before bed (with the Cal/Mag). There are additional things I take too but thats only because of competition goals. I don't think you need much more if you are not training to compete.
