You know I have spent most of my life fat. It was a haed time in school, and it was not until I started lifting weights at 24 that I got self esteem. I see a lot of kids and people in the same position that I was in and still am. I watch tv and all I see are adds and programs where the best liked people and so skinny and thin. I know that is what people like but comeon! Now I am no saying that we should not make a stand and lose weight get in shape etc. But how long are you going to follow a dream of being skinny like Spears, or a fitness cover model. Lets face it, we all are big people, while that chances of you making it to a very slim body exists and if that is your goal go forit! I on the other hand realized a few years ago that I will never be a bodybuilder. I will be strong and fit but I will never be thin. I want you all to think about your goals and set ones that are reachable. Now I know this may sound a bit defeating and all but I spent so much time and effort trying to reach a ideal that society set for me, instead of the ideal that trong man people. So there is something to fit us all.

Be the best version of yourself that you can, not what society dictates is aesthetically pleasing.

I agree. Too many of the "role models" for people these days are under 10st. It's impossible to try and explain to teenagers that these people do not represent society as a whole. Growing up through my teens and into my twenties I was always so frustrated at the clothes shops which only seemed to cater for people half my size. Thankfully my role models tended to be sports stars. Tennis players, athletes, swimmers are people I think are more beneficial role model than models/actors etc.

when the people whose job it is to be physically "perfect" i.e. models, still don't manage, and have to be air-brushed, it is a ridiculous unattainable goal we sometimes set ourselves.

yea I realized that to mutt.....coolest thing happened to me today.........We did a thing in class where we had to be blindfolded and a partner lead us around campus, it was a trust excercise. The girl went first, then as I was blind folded, and we where chatting........she just ask me out of the blue...."where do you work out at?" That felt good knowing that I spend time in the gym, and that even though i'm not a bodybuilder or model, people can tell that i do work out.

The wisdom of another :) I agree wholeheartedly, Mutt, be what you can be not what someone else is and find happiness in reaching your goals!
