Simply run, That is the best way to lose weight and tone up the stomach area at the same time.

She can do squats, deadlifts, push ups, dips bench presses with the bench press and the dumpells...ab specific exercises can also be useful...crunches, sit ups, russian twists, leg raises...

Jeramiemaza -

Why just run? There are a lot of different types of cardio that are just as effective. I would stick with Menace's advice. Start a weight lifting routine and toss in some cardio (not just running specifically).

Running is a place to start...if you give someone that is new to fitness menaces advice(not to say it isn't good advice)it can be a little scarey...to much to think about. If you start out with:
Let's do some squats, deadlifts, pushups, dips, crunches, situps, and leg raises

then lets go to the gym and do some deadlifts(can you hear ma asking.."what on earth are those son?")and some bench presses.

And we'll also have to figure out how many reps and sets you should be doing.

Or do you think it would go over easier with a:
"hey ma...let's go for a short run a couple of times a week"

Then progress into a more complicated workout.
