New to the site and started my routine. One of the exercises recommended are pull ups. I can only do a couple. Is there something I can substitute while I work on increasing the # I can do??

Most Gyms these days have Graviton Machines (where you stand or kneel on a pad, and weights make you lighter (effectively))

Also just keep doing sets of however many reps you can do. After a while you will be able to do mor ein each set and make gains that way. Lat maching pull downs help work the same area, but nothing really compares

Oh wait sorry, I read push ups not PULL ups.....

Well what I do is to make somebody help me holding my legs. I'll do as many I can before and then ask the person to help me getting up there and I'll control the descent.

Good luck!

I read an article in a men's health magazine recently about this... They suggest putting a towel over the top of a door, so that you have an end of the towel on each side of the door. Hold one end of the towel in each hand, and with your body hanging loose and your feet dangling on the floor, pull your self up as you would a pull up. I personally haven't tried it, but they assured that the towel wouldn't slip!

Just use a cable pull down bar, until you build the required strenth. Pull ups are pretty extreme for most. Seems like tall people have the most struggle. I read once that the average man cant do any. Also read the average man cant overhead press his own bodyweight. I have a aunt that can press 200, she has never done any exersize.

lmao @ Aunt that can press 200. 0MG. Hope she didnt' babysit you as a kid! On a serious note, I was able to do pullups as I lost weight and worked on my delts and traps. Lat work helps too. If pullups are the first thing I do, I can do about 10 good ones. If I wait to do them until after some shoulder work, it's much less. lol

Chin-ups? Piece a cake!
