I think in the circumstances it's quite appropriate for a bump!

These types of posts always increase when school is out. It's best to ignore them and email us, if we haven't deleted them.-------------- "A will finds a way, failure is not an option" Ivan carivan@freetrainers.com Montreal Canada |

Princess,
You are a class act as always, and I agree that no response to such posts is the most appropriate. I believe this site should have a provision in its format so that members can quickly report these posts to the moderators or administrators, so they can be removed ASAP. I was very disappointed to see that there are still a couple of disgusting posts still lingereing from yesterday (re; those from 'ellyiscool'). |

I think part of the problem is that we don't have enough moderators right now. I'd like to see more people with the ability to make rapid deletions to some of this stuff. I'm concerned that new guests get the wrong impression of us or that they become discouraged when their posts are vandalized.-------------- Anni ******* Hard work must have killed somebody |

I agree... how about something like a Maintenance Moderator... someone who can just delete offensive posts? Just an idea...

I agree with Charlie in that if the posts are deleted quick enough, I personally, like to stand up and support the person(s) the insults are thrown at, I find it deplorable that one can rip on someone and not receive a good tongue lashing back. I don't mind ignoring the post, either, but if it is there, I'm sorry, my mothering insticts go out immediately and I don't feel it is lowering myself to their level, but supporting a person I look up to. I have had personal experience with this on this very site and I am very grateful for those that did take the time to support me.
I also agree there seems to be a need for more moderators, more is always better, I see more than a few listed but hear from some very little - that is an observation - not a complaint as I know that these people are good enough to share their time with these boards and that means a very, very lot to me, and I am indebted to their postings, but in instances such and this and others, it would be nice to see moderator action a bit sooner, I think it is difficult for the amount of moderators on this site to always do this as I am sure they have other things going on in their lives, so maybe more of them would be a good thing - of course I don't know what that entails, but I don't think it would hurt having more interaction with moderators and having posts like this possibly dealt with sooner. -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan. There has been a rise in this behavior lately. I'm curious if its 1 person repeatedly registering under different names or just a crazy season. I hate to think about deletions as being the only solution but it may be necessary if this recent trend continues.
Personally I enjoy screwin with a troll and with advertisers who show up here. More fragile and vunerable posters should definitly be protected from mean spirited posts. In the case of the post in question, I suggested not deleting it knowing the folks Mutt has helped would want to comment. Remember Mutt has a delete button. He's a strong tough guy. I trust his judgement and leave this one to him. For the while I've been here I've noticed the ebb and flow of the mods and members. I don't know if it's possible to moniter the boards 24/7 and remove the offensive posts. Everybody has lives and this may simply not be possible. I haven't seen this many trolls and hackers until recently and hope this is a temporary thing. Whatever mgmt does is ok with me. It's a shame we even have to discuss this. My 2 cents. -------------- Foolish consistancies are the hobgoblins of small minds. Charlie | |

Having just read some of the recent offensive posts, can I suggest that if there are any similar posts in future NOONE replies to them.
Clearly the people who post are looking for a reaction of some sort and the least satisfying response for them is a non-response. Obviously deletion of the post when the mods arrive is ideal, but I think before then completely ignoring the posts will prevent the sick posters deriving any pleasure from their actions. What do people think? |

As a newcomer I'm glad to see that this is being discussed and that the board isn't total anarchy. I kid you not that three of the first half dozen threads I looked at contained some unproductive (to put it veeeeeery mildly) content. While I appreciate the value of free speech, I also appreciate a forum that I don't have to wade through a lot of "junk food" to find the "meat."

Please do not bury any of the posts. It makes it harder for us to discover and delete. We understand that it is rude and offensive/or someone trying to advertise but just give us an email like you have been. Much appreciated.-------------- "A will finds a way, failure is not an option" Ivan carivan@freetrainers.com Montreal Canada |

I, like all of you were appalled to read the for-mentioned posts. I actually reported it to George when I found out what had been posted. I suppose I was more embarrassed about them because I had just introduced my 15 year old step son to the site to get him read for his next year in school. I had to explain to him that his findings were NOT the normal kind of post that you would find on this wonderful site.

I think burying the posts is a good idea. Emailing a moderator only works if there is an immediate response, which there usually isn't because of when the posts are made.
Chancedog brings up the point we've been trying to make all along, we don't know who or when someone is going to find us and when they do, we want them to see the best that we are, not the worst of what blunders in. I buried the posts because, as anni says, there were no mods online at the time. It was pretty time consuming though, but I didn't want newbies thinking this was the sort of thing that went on at this site, and I thought it the best way to discourage this sort of post.

At the end of the day it was good of princesslodgey to take the initiative and the time to push the bad posts to the bottom to get them out of harms way.

thanks chancedog+anni.
It's difficult not to do anything when you find them early morning UK time and you know that there won't be any mods on for hours, which is why I was seeking a consensus on what we should do. |
