Hi girls. Things are going great, but I'm having such a hard time finding clothes! I've got such broad shoulders (18 inches across in back) compared to my waist (less than 8 inches across from the back) that finding flattering clothes is next to impossible. I have no hips, breasts to which a training bra applies, and big strong thighs and butt in proportion to the rest of me. Basically, if it fits in any one place, it won't fit anywhere else. How do the rest of you ladies who have met your goals find flattering clothes? Any recommendations for stores?

I hear you effalunt - I have a similar problem too - size 12 top, size 9 bottom. If you can afford it, you can always buy clothes and get them tailored to you.

Believe it or not, I go to the little girls section and look for clothes sometimes. I also have no hips so it is hard to find bottoms that fit to my liking. The Bras are so much cheaper there and they do have some cute ones. Workout shorts are also great in that section and some of them are so cute.

Yeah it does! It's hard to find ones without spongebob square pants or the powerful girls painted on the front though!

I do shop in the kids' section, but I've got to buy a dress to wear to a wedding, and the cut of dresses in the kids' section makes me look like I'm twelve! Actually, wait, my breasts at twelve were bigger than they are now! I think it's a sign of the state of our collective health that they make an XXXL but not an XX-small. They cater to the demand, I guess.

If I have to have a formal or nice dress I go to specialty shops at the mall, I pay the price, but the clothes fit. When I do find a size that fits and I like I will buy every color, found 3 real pretty sweaters at walmart for $5 a piece the other day, I bought 4 of them in different colors to work in.

Ooooh I got another big problem!!! I'm 5'11'' tall but I live in Southern France (where almost everybody is small) so to be able to buy pants is a buuuge challenge.
Now my thighs are not extremely toothpick like also so I need to find pants big enough, long enough but with a tiny waist. NOT easy....
(Luckily now it's summer so the only thing I'm wearing is skirts and shorts...)

Ah what the heck, I'll just walk around with my bum naked then......... (o; (o; (o;

Well, I guess I am lucky, even if I cannot shop in the little girls section, I sew, so I can make my clothes to fit. Someday (soon I hope) I will feel like sewing for myself again and make my clothes in smaller and smaller sizes.

I know, I learned it from my grandmother. I have been sewing since I was 8 years old. Besides being a software analyst, I also do alterations for several of the attorneys here and lots of others also. I am getting into personalizing things with my embroidery machine! And I still find time for exercise!!!

ditto deby....I think it is our age. My mom taught all of us, but my daughter was not the least bit interested.

effalunt...try finding a nice, but kind of plain dress, sleevless or spaghetti straps. Then find a coordinating sweater, jacket or wrap or a funky belt, to go with it if needed.

I think we all have some kind of dilemma. I have broad shoulders and wide hips, but a small, high waist, so skirts and pants have always been a problem.

My Mom is a huge sewing person...Sewed all the curtains in her house except the ones hanging in her kitchen....
My Grandmom too....have many of her handmade quilts in my home along with some that she and I made together....
She and Mom used to take scraps of fabric and taught my sisters and me how to sew when we were younger...
Been pretty useful especially when I can't find exactly what I want at the clothes stores...
and because I'm a shorty :o) I have to hem all the pants I buy <smile>

you guys are lucky compared to me. i have problems with pants bc my thighs are too big for my waist, and in dresses, my hips stick out so it looks kind of awkward. i am willing to try EVERYTHING to get rid of these thighs! -JaMie-
