When doing weights on any part of the body, why do you sometimes feel a burning sensation in your muscles?

If it is a good sign, should you be working the muscle hard enough to feel this burning sensation?

Franky, I am unsure as to the answer to this question and eagerly await responses.

I was always curious as to why you can't get the same burn when doing chest as you do like with legs or shoulders.

I think you'll feel the burn more when you use smaller muscles. When doing chest, your engaging more muscle groups for the lift. You'll often feel the burn with things like bicep curls, calf raises, tri kickbacks etc. Nothing wrong with feeling the burn, it's a sign your working your muscle close to max, but not feeling a burn is not necesarily a sign that you're not working hard enough.

Thanks fly. This Monday I felt the burn in my chest for the very 1st time and I was excited!!!

I did a 6 rep max bench then lowered the weight 15% then did sets of 6 (3) and then cut initial weight by 40% and did one set as many reps as possible. It was GREAT!!!

Nice on Conan, I'll give that technique a go next Monday.

I noticed that I was lifting incorrectly and could not feel anything across my chest, a dude in the gym noticed and let me know.

I then lifted the next set correctly including the subsequent lifts and now its wednesday and I feel the beautiful pain. Feel good! Woo hoo!

Another good tip on bench, grip the bar but push your hands inward like you qwere trying to slide them together!!

I thought it was to try to pull the bar apart, not push together.

Quoting from ecle5c:

Yeah that's what I thought too... cos I noticed that my hands were too much on the inside therefore I did not feel that I was working the muscles.

I don't know - ill try both techniques next week!

Cheers guys and gals!
