Any ideas... I've been working out for about 3 years, varying my routines (mainly compound stuff), eating everything, supplimenting with protein shakes and vits, but I still can't gain significantly.

You didn't fill out your profile, so we have NO idea what your height, weight is nor what your goals are.

That said, I've been thin all my life too - 135lbs at 5'11", 32 years old. I always ate what I wanted, when I wanted (but it was never alot) and I never gained weight. I never worked out either, and I'm sedentary - sit in front of a computer at work all day.

Well, after 2 months of working out (thanks to this site for helping me get started) and eating right, I gained 15 pounds! As a matter of fact, I just got back from my doctor's (took blood today - find out my new cholesterol numbers tomorrow) and my weight was officially 151 pounds.

So, I don't know what you are doing differently from me, but suffice it to say, it can be done. Maybe you should consult a doctor or fitness trainer.

The key to gaining is really rather simple, though it will not come tomorrow no matter how much you want it to. You need to do heavy weights, if you can do 6 reps, then move up, the weight is too light. 4 minumum. Do strictly compound exercises, do not fall for the magazine isolation stuff. This is a myth...If you develop the muscle fully with basic compound exercises, when you diet and get lean the definition will show. Eat 1.25 to 2 grams protein per pound of bodyweight daily, never miss a protein feeding! Add good solid complex carbs, brwon rice, potatos, pasta, and lots of low glycemic carbs in your diet. Eat a minimum of 5 times daily. You will most likely gain some fat, it is ineveitable, but is a necessary evil. You can then lean out to look the way you want to.
