Occassionally I will have all out crazy busy (not planned) work day. Like today...I have already seen 3 clients for hour long meetings with each, stepped out to pick up my cats from the vet return them home, sent out 20 client staements.....and am 15 minutes away from my next appointment...On days like this (and they happen about once a week) I don't always eat enough - I just don't have enough time. My metabolism has kicked into high gear and I eat almost constanly when I have a less hectic day.
If this happens occasionally where I only eat 1200 - 1400 calories a day when I am aiming for 1800, will it make an impact on my metabolism?
I do feel the effects the next day - not nearly as energetic, but I would hate to see the progress I am making stalled over being too busy sometimes...
So, will one off day occasionally make a difference?

Protein shakes and power bars. Fill a shaker bottle with a couple scoops of a good tasting protein powder, and if you find you're having a busy day, fill with water, shake, down. You can do it during a bathroom break.

Although power bars are made from the cheapest ingredients known.

The way I look at it is it will ruin your next few days. 1 day won't derail you completely, but it might ruin your next workout, which would be more of a setback.

Thanks. I do currently bring a ton of pre made snacks to work to keep on hand - hard boiled eggs, cut up veggies, cheese etc - but on a day like today they are too cumbersome. I will have to invest in some protein powder and a shaker...
Knowing that it may set me back on my next workout is enough of an incentive...thanks again!

Yeah, one statistic I have read is that a missed meal lowers yourmetabolism by 15%...but that probably varies.

There are many palatable shakes out there now, and for a little more money you can get ready-to-drink ones like EAS myoplex lite (they are usually in the 'sports nutrition' or weight loss section of the grocery or drugstore.

I hear ya there! I have the same problem many days. Perhaps you can try to schedule your day a little more and plan for 10 minute meals to get around that 6 meals a day.

That is what I have started to do. I will plan the entire week on Sunday night and it makes is pretty easy to know what to do when.

Don't know if that helps, but it might be worth a shot if you have not tried that before.

Thanks Dan. I too plan my week on Sundays...but what I come against is unplanned busy. I am self employed and when clients want to see me - I never say no. I purchased some meal replacements - high in protein to help me out on my crazy days. It gets frustrating when I have planned everything, and some days I still can't stay with it....but we all gotta make money too....lol
