hello everyone. My question is, in a bulking cycle is it critical to stay away from the occasional unhealthy snack. for example, out of my required 3500 calories, i get 3000 from clean food. is it okay to eat 500 calories of junk? |

Imagine the 500 coming from proteins versus 500 calories from junk food....Which one do you think would be better for muscle growth? -------------- - Nina :o) Les Victoires éternelles sont celles du coeur. |

what i meant to say was if i had eaten 3000 calories in a certain day(from clean food), and there was no healthy food in sight, would you recommend to grab anything near by and eat it to make up for the lost calories. This isn't on a daily basis. |

I think you should allow yourself a cheat meal once a week. I also think, especially if you're a particularly hardgainer, that a cookie or two isn't going to kill you. Personally I will occaisionally make up a few extra calories with a little (stress little) bit of ice cream.-------------- "Don't follow leaders and watch your parking meters!" -- Bob Dylan |

just depends on your priorities? Its always just as easy to swing in a super market and buy something heathy and wholesome as it is to run into micky d's. Remember (you are what you eat) -------------- "Get everthing you want--just make a little change now" |

thanks for the comments guys. another question, is it a good idea to restrict carbs after 6:00pm.? I eat protein and carbs meals in the morning until 6 and after that my meals are made up of protein and fat. is that a good idea or should i continue eating carbs for the entire day. i work out at around 1:00 noon everyday |

It seems to be a common myth that carbs after dark or something are some kind of evil thing. Listen, if you are training hard, and your body needs nourishment, feed it! Contrary to popular belief, your digestive system works in the evening too! Good luck...-------------- The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary! |

That depends on your needs....are you trying to lose fat? If so, then I would say no. Unless you are very lean and it is your carb meal(for glycogen storage and metabolism reasons). -------------- The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary! |

ok, here's the entire scenarioI'm 6 foot 170 lbs. i'm about 13% body-fat and i'm in a bulking cycle of about 3500 calories a day. i work out 5 days a week and and do some LOW intensity cardio for 15 min(max 3 times a week) after my weight training. i want to gain as much muscle as i possibly can. i've been bulking for about 4 weeks now and ive gained 2 lbs. should i keep my calories the same, or should i increase? not sure if i missed anything |

i usualy have a cheat day every week.i workout hard 4-5times a week and a clean diet everyday except for my cheat day. is that a good idea? a trainer and a bodybuilding competitor recommended that to me, he said i wont gain fat over night so its not a problem if i have a cheat day once a week. |

it sounds like ur one of those ppl who have a hard time gaining weight. try upping the calories a bit, not too much. try cutting out all form of cardio from ur workouts, make sure ur PWO shakes are takin at the right time with 2:1 carb protein ratio. how does ur macro nutrients breakdown look like? |

right now i'm probably getting in around 200 grams protein (i'm 170 lbs), 75 grams of fat, and 400 grams of carbs. i eat protein and carb meals in the morning till 6 and then i eat my protein and fat meals all the way until i go to sleep. i think i'm gonna start adding one more meal after 6 with carbs since bb1fit cleared that up for me |

When you say you are eating your protein/fat meals after 6, what exactly does your fat consist of? Good fats contrary to what most believe will help "fill you out", not as much danger of spillover as there is in carbs. In the case of carbs, if your glycogen stores are full, the spillover results in you know what. If you are training heavy and trying to gain muscle, happy with your bf%, then you need those extra carbs. Ditch some of the fat after 6 and add carbs. This is the only way you will gain mass. Sure, you will have some added fat, but if you can live with that, then you will gain muscle too. Then after every 4-6 weeks of gaining, do a leaning phase for a couple weeks, this will keep things(bf%) from getting out of hand. Then when you are satisfied with your leaning period, go back to gaining. hope this helps.-------------- The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary! |

yeah if ur bulking i really dont think u should be worried about eating carbs later in the evening. it would probly be easier for u actualy to gain if u do. |
