Ok, another Diet Coke question. I hate the taste of plain water. Since Diet Coke is made mostly of water is it wrong to get most of your water intake per day from Diet Coke? What about Crystal Light? Ice tea? Can't I just drink tons of these instead of water? I just cannot drink plain water. It makes me sick. Thanks.

I don't really think there is any sub for plain water... you can try adding flavoring to your water.... slice of lemon or such, but I wouldn't go to straight diet pop... I don't think that much aspartame or whatever they put in it would be all that good for ya...

you know i used to have the same problem, i hated the way water tasted, especially 1st thing in the morning. as silly as it sounds, it's almost an acquired taste for some people. i had to force myself to drink it, and now i drink a gallon a day. like tim said, try flavoring it. i'm a fan of lime myself. but drinking straight up diet coke instead of water is ultimately going to do you more harm than good. you need something pure!-------------- success comes before work only in the dictionary. that's right. |

People may think I'm a krank. But everything you don't like, can be learned to be liked. It works with everything and anybody. If it doesn't work it's because you didn't do it and apply it.
Get a piece of paper and write clearly and boldly- ''I like drinking lots of (filtered)water?''. Concentrate on what you are writing, say it in your head, read it out loud, saying it. Put the paper neatly in your top pocket. Take it out and read it from time to time... Next morning get a piece of paper and write ''I like... etc...'' DO IT FOR 2 WEEKS... You will like water- each day drink water, but when you do and think ''I don't like it.'' Take your paper and read your message. This is a phsychologist/ phsychiatric thing, part of cognitive therapy- I am not barmy, I know it works, you are in control. Everyone who says ''I can't... Never will!'' |

I started out with Crystal Light, iced tea, and Dannon's 'Fruit-2-0' .. flavored waters.. I keep a jar of Lipton instant iced tea mix at work still for when I need variety, and usually have a pitcher of Crystal Light Lemonade in the fridge.
Used to be I just drank bottled water during workouts and off and on at work (refills at the fountain). Funny thing though, after a while, the bottled water tasted BETTER than that flavoring to me... and now I can't remember the last time I added flavoring.. my hubby drinks all the lemonade or it would probably get old. |

Yes, we know that Coke is also a good toilet cleaner....but still, sometimes you just NEED to have one. And a question for those of you who do drink soda.... ever notice that the soda you get at a fast food place almost ALWAYS tastes better than the stuff out of the can or bottle???

Not that I am advocating the drinking of coke, but straight water is used for enemas, rinsing toilets, fueling steam engines and cleaning the dead skin off of our bodies. Many substances have multiple uses, let's not even get into peanuts.

I hardly ever drink pop (soda ), don't like the cans OR the plastic bottles...
..but when I do get a hankerin' for a bit of bubbly it's straight to a fountain for me.. something about the syrup mixing fresh with the carbonated water is so much better!! (sigh.. remember when Pepsi came in glass bottles - now that was good) |

That is so true. In fact, I love it even better in a sit down restaurant out of a glass. If the mix is just right it is great.

ok smart a$$..... but besides making us pee alot, what harm does water due to us? yes anything in moderation is ok in my opinion....i was merly stating a fact.....are body needs water, thats what is used for all metabolic processes. Its not coke, not anything else, to get the water out of the coke, it has to get all that other crapout of it so it can be used. For water, no puriflying. -------------- .......adversity causes some to break, but others to break records! ......minds are not vessles to be filled, but fires to be enlightened ......Confucious once said ,DO NOT play leap frog with a unicorn |

I have to agree with Nieltilley. I'm not sure about the whole, writing it down and saying it over and over, but I remember I used to not be able to stand a glass of water, but one day I just decided I was gonna drink it, and I was gonna like it. Ever since then I've loved water, I drink sodas and sweet tea too, usually about a glass a day just for some variety, but I really love water. You just have to tell yourself that you're gonna drink it no matter what, and eventually you will enjoy the taste of it once you realize that that is all you are going to be drinking.-------------- Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall --Confucius |

Don't get excited. I am not saying drinking Coke is a good thing or even mildly good for you. In fact, even though I do partake, I would agree that it is bad for you. The caffeine acts as a diuretic and the high presence of water does not assist the osmotic process in the body. Overall, you are better off with water. However, to continue to be a little bit of a smart a$$ there is water toxicity, believe it or not. You and I are not likely to get it as it tends to be coupled with psych disorder, but you can throw your sodium out of whack and create siezures by drinking to much water (I mean a crap load of water, much more than many of us could ever dream to handle).

I mean the high presence of "solutes" in coke, not "water" do not assist in the osmotic process.

coke comes in many flavours now, but all of the flavours can encourage the growth of stones in your gall bladder and kidneys. This can lead to surgery. Water is used to flush clean your system. It comes in one flavour so you have a choice with herbs, hot or cold. Ginger, green tea, chamomille, rosehip, blackcurrant etc... Water is as interesting as your imagination. Coke, well everybody drinks Coke don't they... But I see myself as more of an imaginative individual.

Ok, I have gall stones(not sure which kind) that I developed during pregnancy. I was told by the doctor to drink coffee because it would help to break them up. To me coffee and coke are almost the same....should I be drinking it or no?? (I know the answer is no, just won't admit it to myself yet) :)

hehe I think the biggest differance between coke and coffie would be Carbination and heat vs cold, unless you boil your coke first lol. My GUESS would be that the carbination agrivates your system some how, I know it gives ya gas lol, and always made me feel bloated, when ever I can I drink crystal light or water.... I am finiky on my water though, has to be purified.. or from a water fountan, lol I duno. Ironic, I am drinking a diet coke as I write this....-------------- Sean "TBAR" Johnson -USAF- |

Today's Answer (Published 12/19/2002) New results from a large study did show a 25 percent lower risk of gallstones among women who regularly drink four or more cups of coffee a day (compared to women who drink none). This finding, published in the December 2002 issue of the journal Gastroenterology, comes from the famous Harvard Nurses’ Health Study, which has followed more than 80,000 women for 20 years. An earlier study found that drinking coffee lowers gallstone risk among men. The Harvard researchers suggested that the caffeine in coffee is responsible for the gallstone effect, perhaps because it triggers gallbladder contractions that may discourage stone formation. Maybe so, but if you’re prone to gallstones (risks are highest among overweight, mid-life women, diabetics and those whose mothers had gallstones), you can take a number of other preventive measures that may be better for overall health: If appropriate, lose weight slowly (crash dieting can lead to gallstone formation). Drink six to eight glasses of water a day to keep the bile in your gallbladder fluid and help you digest and absorb fat (most gallstones are composed of cholesterol). Make sure you get 1,000 to 1,500 mg of calcium daily (associated with a lower incidence of gallstones). Men should get 800 to 1,200 mg. Take 300 mg of curcumin (an active component of the yellow spice turmeric) three times a day to increase the solubility of your bile. Choose a standardized product. Take 200 mg of supplemental vitamin C daily (one study found that women with higher blood levels of vitamin C were half as likely to develop gallstones as those with lower levels). As for the coffee connection, I recommend that you continue to cut back. While coffee may prevent gallstone formation, it is also an addictive drug that can cause or worsen other troublesome health problems: headaches, anxiety, insomnia, cardiac arrhythmia (palpitations), high blood pressure, gastrointestinal and urinary disorders, prostate trouble and PMS. If you are interested in the positive effect of caffeine on gallstones, I suggest drinking green tea, which has less caffeine than coffee and a host of health advantages including protection from cancer. Now you tell me.....Hmmm, I always drank a lot of water; especially since I drank so much coffee. Gotta have my coffee!!!!!
Had a bout with kidney stones in Dec and Jan; which some how elevated the B/P. The doc threw some B/P meds at me, in the mean time; got rid of all the kidney stones. Felt like crap afterwards, I just wasn't right. Checked my B/P for a week at the docs office. Extremely low, was taken off the meds. Apparently the kidneys produce something to helps regulate your B/P, and with the stones and other activity in my kidneys; blam high B/P.. Crazy huh!!!! Fixed all that, and then started having bouts with Gall Bladder attacks. Yep, I got or should I say, had stones. The surgeon said that it was most likely from the extreme diet and exercise. (Rapid fat loss)haha Crazy huh!!! Hey, I am alive and still kicking. Got me a diet coke in one hand and a starbucks in another; guess I better get some water. Oh, I did learn another thing this past weekend. I HATE CATHADORES!!!! Keep a drinking!!!! Aim for three clear pees a day....... Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, gotta gooooooooooooooo! |

No I didn't. But I heard a thing on Montel that a website has a symbol on the page if it is an FDA approved site, but I don't remember what the symbol itself looks like.
