Just lower your carb intake. Find a good workout program and you should do just fine.

No perfect diets out there but try your way and you'll see what'll work for you. Good luck!

Im sure that cutting diets are more than just cutting the carbs out what about (loading) - carb depletion? - sodium retention - all a little technical and slighty confusing.
Does anyone know where i can source info on the technical side of cutting - maybe a book or publication.
anyones help appreciated...

There is a book by Chris Aceto called Championship Bodybuilding, it has some good info.
Jay Robb also authored a couple of books - one called the fat burning diet has a cutting phase diet for bodybuilders, his other book is bodybuilding without steroids, I am still waiting for my copy.
Good Luck!

It is not until the last week of comp dieting that you manipulate sodium/potassium. As far as cutting carbs, this can be a big mistake. A large calorie cut right at the beginning usually is at the expense of a good bit of muscle. It is more the type of carbs. If this is your first time, you need to start about 12-16 weeks out, first changing your food types to nutritiously dense foods, which may even result in more calories than you are now taking in. Then, you need to gradually reduce calories, add cardio at about 8 weeks or so, not too early, and keep gradually reducing caloric intake. Look for a 2 lb. or so loss per week. More could be muscle. Depending on your bf level, the next step would be a low carb diet, with added carb meals twice per week to keep your metabolism from nosediving and also help with glycogen storage so your workouts don't go completely to hell. Keep up the heavy weights, do not lighten up on them. Alot to attend to in a short posting space, if I can be of more will be glad to.
