Does it matter if you do cardio before or after weight training?I have always done it before.. I am also doing 25 minutes on the treadmill 4-5 days a weeks.. Is this enough? |

Do your Weight training, then Cardio. -------------- 'Nobody trips over mountains. It is the small pebble that causes you to stumble. Pass all the pebbles in your path and you will find you have crossed the mountain.' - Anonymous |

Yes do your cardio AFTER weight training (to keep the energy for the weights) or do it another day.-------------- - Nina :o) Les Victoires éternelles sont celles du coeur. |

I disagree completely. I would do the cardio BEFORE. It gets your blood pumping and your heart rate up. You get stretched out during the cardio and you can take your protein shake or whatever immediately after lifting weights LIKE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO and you won't have to do your cardio with a shake slopping around in your belly. Im getting a little hesitant to take the advice of these moderators, they are wrong quite often.-------------- Mr Bojangles is the sh*t ~Justin~ |

Well, I would have to say to the last post you are quite wrong. Do your weight training first. If you are trying to gain muscle mass, strength, size, why in the world would you do your cardio first. You will simply deplete all your glycogen stores, and have nothing left but be able to lift the little shiny chrome weights in the corner!! Do your weight training first while you are strong, you will get much more out of your training. |

hey, take whatever advice, but, cardio before weight training will definately find quicker results. Seems common sense to me-------------- Mr Bojangles is the sh*t ~Justin~ |

Common sense is correct. By all means, do your cardio first! If you like lifting the little 3 lb. rubber dumbbells, then you have made the right decision! Those shiny dumbbells sure look impressive when you are doing them too! |

It all comes down to what you want to attain. Is is it to be more fit cardio vascularly? (bad spelling)... Meaning have more endurance. Or do you want to gain more muscle mass? Or do you want to loose bodyfat without getting more fit cardiovacularly? Do tons of cardio before weights if you want. It's a great way to get in shape, but it's not the best way to loose bodyfat. Do weights first, then light cardio. You'll get muscle and loose bodyfat. It's a great way to gain muscle and loose fat, but you won't be no marathon runner. They all have their good points. It all depends on what you want to attain. Also, you don't drink your protein shake after a workout, then do cardio... that defeats the whole purpose of doing cardio after a workout... You drink the shake after the cardio, which is after the workout. I'm not sure why anyone would drink a shake before cardio anyway :) |

I have tried both cardio before and after and I won't do cardio before weight training again. I don't have the strength to get through my weight training if I do it before. I also found weightloss to be more noticable when doing cardio after. I've burned a bit through weight training and by the time I get to my cardio after it has been over 2 hours since I've eaten a meal. Kinda like working out first thing in the morning...your stomache is closer to empty then.I do warm up with a speed walk for about 10 minutes before my weight training though. |

There is nothing wrong with some warm up before weights a brisk walk was mentioned, or light weights and stretching is fine warm muscles work better than cold ones. But for a real cardio work out I am afraid 3eleven311 that bb1fit has got it exactly right do heavy cardio after weights I have found it best for me to do cardio much after like 5 or more hours or on a different day. Every one is a little different and you have to find what works for you. The advise you or any one gets here from any one is just that advise most likely from there experiances and from what they have seen or studied, to say that the moderators advise is wrong often is a pretty strong thing to say. I have seen a lot of very good advise here not just from the moderators. Good luck in your workouts -------------- Never be afraid to try something new.
