I know a lot of Bodybuilders do things to make them selves look bigger before they go on stage... How so? Do they do a few sets of weights or something and if so what works best in effect?

I am guessing you are talking about pumping up backstage?

You want to do some shoulder exercises, maybe some chest exercises, not too many leg exercises is what I have been told because it will take too much of the pump away from upper body. I think everyone does something different. My training partner and I brought bands and did some push-ups, some rows, some curls, some overhead presses - you never know what equipment will be available in the pump room or if someone else will be monopolizing it.

Before ever getting backstage they have dieted for months and worked out for a long time to build a physique, so not THAT much happens backstage. And how you deplete and carb up will play a huge role in how 'full' your muscles look.

Amy hit it pretty much on the head. The idea in the pump up room is to not do a workout, but light pumping exercises with little weight. Believe it or not, too much of a pump is not good. When you go on stage, you are looking to display a physique you may have worked years for. What the judges are looking for is 'cuts', and symmetry. Not huge size and bulk. Pumping too much will actaully take away from your cuts and vascularity. Make you look full of course, but smooth. Water is a key issue also. There is much debate about this, and I will not delve too much into it. Suffice it to say water is critical in the right amounts.
