"Bench like an Animal" is the title of an article in the latest Universal Matters (a magazine published by Universal Nutrition), issue #24 . Its actually part 2 of an ongoing article, but this one pertains to many who read the Powerlifting forum. There has been a lot of talk recently about different strength training routines and how to get started. Well, here's your article. You can log onto www.universalnutrition.com and read some of the articles from past issues. I'm not sure if this one is up yet. Its definately worth checking out.

BONUS: Tons of great pics of Monica Brant!!

LOL @ the Monica Brant comment... but always a major added bonus!

This is a great article. There are some other good ones on animalpak.com. The author, Paul Vargo, is an incredible person. He is an ALL natural 242 class, who puts up some great numbers (I think he's currently training with 610), and he will be making another appearance at this year's O.

How about some floor press? Big benchers don't do kickbacks. There are better exercises for your triceps to help build your bench than kickbacks. This is the chest workout from the article:
Heavy Bench
• 225 lb. x 6 reps (75%)
• 235 lb. x 5 reps (78%)
• 245 lb. x 4 reps (82%)
• 255 lb. x 3 reps (85%)
• 265 lb. x 2 reps (88%)
• 275 lb. x 1 rep (91%)
• Final end rep (around 90%)
Note: The above poundages refer to a lifter who already has a 300 pound one rep max. Your numbers will vary depending on your individual goal.
Triceps
• Close Grip Bench: 3 x 3 (75%)
• Skull Crushers (Light): 3 sets x 8 reps
• Dumbbell Kickbacks: 3 sets x 8 reps
• Pushdowns: 3 sets x 8 reps

***********************************************
The skull crushers are good
The close grip bench is good
Even the pushdowns are good
But lets leave the kickbacks out.
Try something that will build your bench. Floor presses, or board presses, or even dumbbell bench. You can use a physioball for dumbbell press.
I think the bench workout itself looks good. I also try cutting some of the early sets out and getting some 1rep work near 100% every so often.

I dunno bout thos kickbacks i go heavy on them and my bench went up 50 lbs this year so far...I am not saying that they alone is what did it but they canhelp add some mass and strength to your tris..
