I've been doing a really good diet, but am worried about not getting enough fat in my diet. Should I be worried? I'm getting closer to my target weight, but am worried that I may need to supplement w/ ... what? I don't get the chance to eat much fish except tuna, and a regular day's diet is like this: 2 protein pancakes 1/2 protein bar 1 can of tuna sandwich (plain with fat free mayo), apple 1/2 protein bar 2 turkey burgers (the meat), baby carrots protein shake 13-14 glasses of water What kind of side effects are there to not getting enough good fats? Thanks, guys. Nik |

Here is a great bit on fats, long but good reading. Better than I could have put it. To read the rest, go to www.barleans.com and click on iformation.Organic, unrefined flaxseed oil is considered by many to be the answer to this health dilemma. Oil extracted from organic flaxseeds is unique because it contains both essential fatty acids: alphalinolenic, an Omega-3 fatty acid, and linoleic acid, an Omega-6 fatty acid, in appreciable amounts. Flaxseed oil is the world's richest source of Omega-3 fatty acids at a whopping 57% (over two times the amount of Omega-3 fatty acids as fish oils). Omega-3 fatty acids have been extensively studied for their beneficial effects toward: high cholesterol levels stroke and heart attack angina (heart pain) high blood pressure arthritis multiple sclerosis psoriasis and eczema cancer The high content of Omega-3 fatty acids inherent in flaxseed oil is but one of its positive attributes. The essential fatty acids combined here have proven to impart a regulatory function on the body's fatty acid metabolism. Fat metabolism is as important, if not more critical, than our body's metabolism of proteins and carbohydrates as evidenced by the drastic rise in fat related degenerative diseases, such as vascular disease and strokes. Dietary essential fatty acids common to flaxseed oil are ultimately converted to hormone-like substances known as prostaglandins, and are important for the regulation of a host of bodily functions including: inflammation, pain, and swelling pressure in the eye, joints or blood vessels secretions from mucus membranes and their viscosity smooth muscle and autonomic reflexes, gastrointestinal, arterial, ear, heart water retention blood clotting ability allergic response and rheumatoid arthritis nerve transmission steroid production and hormone synthesis -------------- Failing to plan is like planning to fail! |

What kind of side effects are there to not getting enough good fats? _______________________ Dry skin, not enough energy and bad recovery, joint aches and missing fat loss are some of the side effects. Getting enough GOOD fat is absolutely necessairy (the prob is that people eat too much BAD fat!). I eat a tea spoon of fish oil with my night protein shake every single day...... -------------- - Nina :o) Les Victoires éternelles sont celles du coeur. |

A very simple and easy way to get your fats is to get some flax oil. As stated above, flaxseed is the richest source of Omega 3's. Take one tbsp. in the morning with your first meal, and one in the late afternoon or evening with another. If you have some salmon too that day, all the better. If you do not like the taste of it, if you do protein shakes for instance, simply mix it in your shake.-------------- Failing to plan is like planning to fail! |

I'm going to add to go with Barleans flax oil if you can. I tried a different brand and it seemed to make my shakes extremely nasty. |

Thanks SOO much for your guy's input. My skin has definitely been dryer and who knows what other side effects there have been I haven't noticed.ONE MORE QUESTION TO TIE TO THE ABOVE . . . I know that the pure oil is better, but is there enough of a difference? I've bought the flax oil caps 1,000 this weekend and plan starting taking them 2x/day. |

These have a mixture of Borage oil too I believe. They are fine, not quite as cost efficient. It is much easier I believe to take one Tbsp. and be done rather than 10 capsules, not to mention more cost effective. The choice is yours though. My wife does the capsules because she cannot stand the taste of the oil.-------------- Failing to plan is like planning to fail! |

Here is a little tidbit about fat....the ancient American Indians would go out of there way to eat fat when they could get it, I am talking about that fat along the meat, that portion that we cut off. Why? Because, they knew that without it your body does not work. Fat is the oil/grease fo the human body!-------------- IF YOU CAN STILL ITCH YOUR NOSE AFTER ARM DAY, GO DO ANOTHER SET!!! |

You most probably will not find Flax oil in liquid form in regular grocery stores. Good flax oil needs to be refrigerated. YOu may find the capsules in the vitamin area. Some super wal marts have it, but it is a knockoff of a major brand. A healthfood store is probably your best bet.-------------- Failing to plan is like planning to fail! |

ONE MORE QUESTION . . .Since it IS healthy fats, not bad fat, does it benefit me to take it in the morning versus the evening? Simple question, I just don't know if it matters. THANKS, Nik |

I prefer mine with my first meal and last meal. But again, don't really think it matters.-------------- Failing to plan is like planning to fail! |
