15 year old, weight loss/muscle training

Hi, I am a 15 year old boy. I am about 5'5" if not 5'6", and I weight about 170lbs. I am very ashamed of this, and my mom and dad and sisters all try to get me to lose weight and gain muscle (not too much at this age they say), but I always have a good plan, but after a week or so, I just stop, I don't want to say I hate myself for it, but for a lack of better words, I HATE MYSELF FOR IT!

I really want to be able to lose as much weight as possible between now and May 10th, which is when my BX Banquet Dance is, I know that the most I could possible lose is between 2-5 pounds, but I just want to lose INCHES! Not just pounds, does anyone have any good workout routines or tips on helping me achieve my goal? I want to be lean, and as soon as that happens I want to begin muscle training, even though I am vegetarian (religious purposes).

Please, and thanks in advance!

Well the first thing you need to do is not stop after a week. That will probably help more than any other advice.

And it would be ill advised to lose "as much weight as possible" in the next 17 days. You should aim to lose about 5-7lbs in that time.

My first question is why do you stop after a week? You need to look at the reason behind that.

I know that when I fall off of my diet or workout plan it is usually due to poor planning around tht hectic schedules I tend to keep. I've learned that planning everything at least 24 hours in advance helps immensely.

I wouldn't separate muscle training and getting lean into 2 separate goals. If you do some cardio and resitance training (alternating days) you will find this will probably help you acheive your goals.
If you keep stopping after a week - odds are you don't have a great program for YOU. Find a type of cardio that seems enjoyable - look for some DVD's that appeal to YOU.
check out the WSSC challenge posted here for a great routine.
If finding the time or energy to do it is an issue - try getting up a little earlier and workout before you attempt to do anything else.
