What is the real benefit of resting longer than a minute between sets? I find since I am into my cutting program my resting time is about 30 seconds between sets and I am very sore the following day. What if you made this 30 seconds of rest standard for all your lifting programs? good idea? bad idea? Thanks!

Well what type of reps are you doing? I find the heavier I go in weight the longer I need to recover. But it really comes down to what your body needs. Most trainers will tell you the the heavier you lift the longer between sets.

I get through my weight loss/toning program much faster than when I was doing the mass gain, I think it is all about the lighter weights.

I would definatley have to agree with Mutt and Lumina. I can't imagine a 30 sec rest between dead-lift sets. Whew! However, when I am working biceps and triceps, I seem to be ready to roll much sooner. I feel the heavier, compound movements take me much longer to recover from. Of course, I also don't time my rests. My work out partner insists on this. I would like to hear if someone has some information on timing your rests, how key it is, etc. I have never noticed varying (still within a minute or two) rests hurting my workouts at all...

The rest time in between the sets changes with the weight (and your goals!) I'm not a good "rester"...... I always work in supersets, always working, never stopping, but changing muscle group from every set.
