I work shift work and cycle to and from work just under 10k when on nights ridding then going to bed. Is this going to affect my program (is this a bad time for cardio)? Any comments welcome

I think not cardio is something that you need to do whenever you have the time....most say in the morning before you eat, that is when I like it, but if you can not do that then whenever you have the time is allright

You can do cardio anytime...as long as it is done on an empty stomach.

After you eat a meal how long does it take to have a empty stomach?

I normally eat a small meal about 1.5 hours before my cardio. This is not including my ride home from work it has normally been 5 to 6 hours since last meal at this point

I have read something very controversial and is gonna make Robert a little upset...LOL. It stated that doing cardio on an empty stomach is not needede to maximize results. It all comes down to your calorie intake, YOU MUST BURN more calories then you CONSUME to tone up or vice versa to bulk up. I agree with the calorie intake 100%, but you must see what works best for your body. Universal Matters (vol. 5 isuue 3) states "One danger on doing cardio on an empty stomach , especially higher intensity cardio, is burning muscle for energy. Remember folks, first thing in the morning your body is in starvation mode and wants to conserve fat. If blood sugar is low, what else is left? Muscle.

Makes sense, but I can't do cardio if I've eaten. It makes me sick. I would rather do my cardio on an empty stomach, then eat within 20 minutes of completing my cardio. If I wake up hungry however though, I may eat a banana or something, because that also helps to prevent cramps when running.

You know sometimes I do cardio the first thing in the morning..... sometimes straigt after work out, other times I do slow cardio after eating and again cardio on completely other times and occasions. I rather want to do my cardio than thinking that hmmmmm I shouldn't really be doing it since I just ate (if you do it just after eating keep the speed very low thou) I just make sure of DOING my cardio......
Listen to your body and find what works for you.
