Try to make the positive part of your lift equal to the negative.. or at least thats what I try for some (not really all) exercises.. like count 2 seconds to lift.. then 2 seconds to lower.. (1001.. 1002.. etc)

same here like fireloard, however, on my last rep, i'd like to hold it half-way till failure...before bringing it all the way down...

Well, that depends. If you're doing cheat curls, you want to slowly bring the weight down. If doing normal curls, you can slow things down even further...which will give your muscles an added burn! You won't be able to do very much, but the goal is to get the muscles to grow! Oh, you also want to pause and contract your muscles at the top of the movement before bringing the weight down.

You just have to know that you'll be working the negative or eccentric part of the movement (as fireloard also pointed out). This is fine for fibre stimulation and growth BUT this is also what gives the most trauma to the muscles and therefore you'll need a longer recovery time to get back on the track again.
Alternate the speed, don't always do the same and you'll get the best results.
Good luck!
