Should I do crunches or twisting crunches ? or should I do them both in the one workout ?

all depends on your goals.. twisting will allow you to focus on your obliques and serratus along with your abdominals.

Good Luck

Both exercises are listed on the 12-week ab blast program. Also, the program has you doing both 4 times per week (2-4 sets each).

I am into the 4th week of the ab blast program and I was wondering if it was going to call for twisting crunches. The program says it doesn't get really difficult until the 5th week on though, so I'll probably see them very soon.

You'll see them soon...the program gets progressively difficult.

Think of it as a challenge you're willing to overcome!!

LOL!! Don't worry, I barely consider it a challenge. It's just painful. For me getting started on a regular workout cycle is the tough part. Once I get momentum it's like eating breakfast.

AH! That reminds me though. I was wondering if it made a difference whether or not you hooked your feet under something when doing crunches? To me it feels more isolated if I do. It feels like if I am just in the middle of the floor it takes alot of other muscles to pick me up.

The only thing that changes when hooking your feet under something (and doing crunches) is that you'll end up doing sit ups. Sit ups use the hips flexors and the lower back as well (not only the abs).

So then it's better not to use something to anchor myself?

You shouldn't need anything to anchor yourself for crunches because when properly done, your upper body only goes off the ground a few inches.

the best way to train your abs and obliques is to use a swissball that fits your height. Another way is to stop doing sit ups on the floor and stop buying those scam ab products because they don't work.

For the past 4 months i have been doing 4 sets of (25)situps with a 10lb plate and 4 sets of 10-15 slow leg lifts and my abs are awesome, not just defined but thicker, and i only do this twice a week after my back and leg workouts, and i have my legs hooked under a couch. I thought i would just give some advice on a routine that has worked for me.
Good Luck everyone.

Not everyone can do standard situps. Besides, standard situps work the hip flexors more than they do the abs!! They also are not very good for the lower back.

Doing these with weights will definitely add thickness...same principle as working out your other muscle groups with weights. You'll have to tone them, though, later on by using no weights, but just more reps. and sets.

FT's ab program does not include standard situps. However, it does incorporate other exercises designed to really work the abs from all different angles.

Yeah I did the workout properly and can tell a huge difference just in the feel of it. I can see the value in both, so thanks.
