if you dont excercise or if you have a pre-exisiting medical condition, i.e., your kidneys, then excess protein can be a stress to your body. otherwise, no. i used to consume at least 2g / pound of body weight, and have never suffered any ill effects... physical, at least (LOL). the biggest problem to watch for is that while you're eating all that protein, make sure that you're keeping an eye on your fat intake. fat can creap into your diet very easily with some high protein sources.
best of luck.............michael

Like Michael says, if you only take protein and not exercise, you're putting your body in a stressful mode. It's not uncommon for athletes, bodybuilders and weight trainers to consume 2-3 times the recommended daily allowance. If you need more info. on this subject, go to www.webmd.com and type "protein" in the subject field.
Also, you can use the "search" function here at ft on previous posts on this subject (there are a lot). Good luck.

And don't forget that proteins are calories as well..... AND too many calories often turns into fat.
You'll need a lot more proteins than other "non exercising" people when doing weight training, but everything is a question about balance. Try to put in your profile at FT nutrition and let them calculated how many proteins you need.

in my profile it says i should consume 265 g fat per day surely that must be wrong considering that a body builder should eat 1g of protien per kg of weight a say!

Are you talking fat or protein? When weight training, you should consume 1 to 1.5 grams of protein (not fat) per pound of weight. So, if you weigh 150, then you should consume 150 - 225 grams of protein. Remember, you can have a variance of about 10%.

No, no, and no. If you consider building huge muscles then yes, but otherwise no.

Are you bulking or cutting? We need fat to grow muscles but cut down and get on diet if we want definition and show our six pack. Everything has its time.

Keemi25, welcome to ft! I see this is you first post.
Why do you say that and where is your proof? There has been no documented evidence to support this.

Rpacheco, prolonged over-consumption of protein can lead to dehydration and kidney damage, but you would have to be consuming upwards of 3 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight for this damage to occur so it should not be a concern because most people don't even get close to that amount. And what protein your body doesn't use ends up the same place as excess fat and carbohydrates, covering your hard earned muscle as ugly fat.

Let's get the facts straight! It's very difficult to consume so much protein to begin with as you have stated. And yes, too much protein in ones diet WITHOUT an exercise regimen WILL add stress to the body. Medical journals and sports physicians will attest to that. However, there has been NO documented evidence of kidney damage in bodybuilders or athletes on high protein diets!
