The palms or the meaty part below the thumb where you hold weights when doing dumbell flies and dumbell curls is sore. I only am now lifting 12 pounds (female here!!!) but am I either doing something wrong or am I still in a whimpy stage and this is something to get over. I know as I do a set I can feel soreness more in my hands than in my chest.
AND I do wear some rubberized padded gloves.

Maybe you should try to strengthen your hand grip.
Try to take some very heavy weights in your hands and walk around for a while. Don't do anything with the weights but just carry them around. This exercise will strengthen your grip (and make a lot of people laugh too!! :o)
2-3 times a week. Try to see if this will work (but give it at least 4-6 weeks before you really can tell the results).
