Been working out since February of this year. I like this message board thing. It's good to get a range of opinions on things. Less intimidating than asking others at the gym. It's going to be fun to get to know people here.

Very cool. Which art and what kind of fencer were you? I still to choreography for stage combat, but no competitive fencing.

I studied Kenpo, JKD, Tang Soo Do, and still taking tai chi. When I fenced, I was in foil and saber. Love saber fencing.

Ooh nice. I studied Tae Kwon Do, Kenpo, Tai Chi :), Kung Fu. I want to find a good school for Kung Fu again. Saber was a little too brutal for me, and for my size I am much better suited to epee. I still choreograph Rapier, Smallsword, Broadsword, Rapier and Dagger, whips, archery, and on and on.. I spent about 6 years studying medievil weaponry. Well again welcome to ft, feel free to ask any questions.

I never would have thought it. Tell you what though if I was a betting man, sabre vs. epee, epee all the way. (I'm talking real sabres, vs. rapiers though, not competition blades)

Oh but it's not the same thing, fencing sabre, epee or foil will give you three people with completely different personalities.

Let me just say that the sabre fencers are the crazy ones, we like to hit, scream and jump like lunatics. Epee and the foil fencers are sort of more civilized......

I'm married to a Maitre d'arme and I have been doing World Cups in sabre fencing for years.

I love it and miss it.

Pete, yes Kendo rocks. Although I hate the offshoot it created with Shenai fighters.
Nina,
Yeah, it's difficult for me to keep separated sometimes, because I fight with them all. Doing stage combat with a real Saber, is COMPLETELY different than Sabre fencing.

That's why I love Sabre. Love the yelling, screaming, and giving out welts!

You should try skirmishing some day Pete. It's the closest you can safely come to a real duel. Every first timer goes home TORE up. It's our tradition to sign the welts or bruises.
