Just wondering if any of you are planning on or training now for a competition of any type, bodybuilding or fitness, or power lifting? Am just wondering where people are at in their training, how they are preparing, and if and who my competition will be!! LOL....Compare notes, etc.

No competition here bb1fit. I'm still losing fat! I'm at 15 avg now.Be a while yet for me to compete, and by then I will probably be to old!

carivan,
You are never to old to compete. If that is in the back of your mind then more motivation for you to lose that yucky fat.:)

LOL When I was younger I thought 29 was old. Now I know that life is just beginning. Although these past couple of weeks I feel like an old fart. :o

I am not planning to compete in the near future still have this fat to lose. But.... you put a bug in my mind. Sometime in the year 2003 I will be deployed in the middle of the ocean for 6-8 months. Since I will only be working (kind of hard to do anything else when you are stuck on a ship)and need to keep my mind occupied (missing family) I could train really hard in preparation for a comp when I get home. Do the trial runs of reducing body fat at comp level. I am not sure how galley food will rate but if I make friends with the cooks I could have them tailor meals for me once in awhile. :)

Have a great weekend!

:) Melissa

Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather we have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

Melissa: Sounds like you have a solid plan. That is kind of how I started competing. Someone planted that bug one day out of the clear blue, I went to a local show here, and made up my mind the next year I was going to be in it! I stuck to it, and have never looked back. And Carivan, you are nowhere near too old. A man 61 won my class last year in a competition I was in, and he deserved it. He was great. Had the audience all going crazy hollering....you can do it too.

Thanks for the positive notes. I've never felt better since started training last Sept 01.
And hey if ever you want to come up to Montreal and coach me, I'll be here!
BB1Fit can train me in the gym and Mandre can be my full time dietician!! (spelling)

Well Bb1fit I signed on after a long break...3000 posts ago! Congrats on your new position here. As you already know I am one month off competition. Now I am training to lean down my lower body abit, add some muscle (always!) and keep my bodyfat at 12% through the holiday months so the "lean down" will go easier for my next shows. And you back looks awesome!!!!! I am impressed!

I'm planning on going in a provincial bodybuilding comp in April. This one isn't drug tested or anything so it's going to be tuff. I'm hoping to put on some extra mass and come in shredded.

I went to see it last year and some of the guys were huge. I'm hoping that by putting on an extra bit of meat and trying to get real ripped when the time is right that I can have a chance at beating some of those boys out :)

What I'm doing now:

Eating 6-7 times a day @ over 4500 calories
working out 4-5 times a week at max intensity
trying to rest in between as much as possible
not doing any cardio at all

Once March rolls around I'll do a drastic change in diet and workot routine and throw in cardio in there too. Hope it works ;)

Dang: I know what you mean...I am training for also a non drug tested comp.. The feeling is pretty awesome when you can go against these guys and hold your own, and even win your class. You are doing at this time almost identical to what I am doing. No cardio at all! I do take every 5 weeks to do a "hardening" phase for about 9-10 days, then go back on mass again. I try to keep the "love handles" in check in this manner. I found out from my first comp., it is much easier to drop 5% bodyfat than 25%! Last time I only had to diet for 6 weeks. The first time, I had to diet for 16 weeks! and it was also a non drug tested event. Best of luck to you dang....

Hey bb1fit, My hardcore training is soon to start. I am on a muscle gain right now, 13 inch biceps (I hope I don't lose that when I go on my losing diet). I am so excited about competing with my husband in May.

Hey bb1fit! I started my diet Monday for a comp in June called Iron Maiden (oh, and Iron Man). It is non-tested and last year a pretty big woman took heavy weight. i am a natural heavy weight, i competed at 145lbs in November, though not as lean as i wanted to be (which is mostly why I am doing it again, i won't be done until I come in looking just the way i want.).
I have put on 8-10 lbs of mass since novemeber and hope to retain it by keeping my cardio minimal until close to the show.
Usually i am very positive and extremely motivated, but i find it hard on the second very low carb day in my carb-cycle to stay 'up'.
I posted a question under the topic of carbonated beverages - what do you think about diet soda in a precontest diet (obviously not closer to the show, but now when I am craving something sweet)?

There is nothing wrong with a diet soda, even a week out from the contest. At a week though, cut them totally out. Be careful of the sodium.

Hey, bb1fit, I am actually thinking about competing in an Aug or Sept show. There are quite a few heavily tested natural shows around Michigan (where i live). Natural is the only way to go. I already eat super clean and never include cheat days. But I was wondering, what are some of the experiences you have come away with from competing? Good or bad. And what should I expect to encounter? Thanks for any input.

Thank you very much bb1fit, that info will help A LOT, and I may actually have some more questions down the road. And good luck with your show, you have the right attitude of a winner.
