I could not find a thread on this so I will ask the question. Is there a rough body fat % that I can use for a target to know when I should stop doing cardio after my weight training? I am overweight enough still I have plenty of fat to burn but I also know that to continue to build muscle I should not do cardio after weights unless of course I have plenty of Body Fat. I would like to start monitoring my bf% so that I can switch at or near the optimum bf%. I want to take advantage of the cardio after weights to get rid of some fat but switch before I jepordise muscle gain. Any and all input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would think it depends on your definition of "optimum". I would quit when you are happy with your body fat levels, or at least what it looks like in the mirror.

Optimal levels of bodyfat for gaining or losing is around 15% for males. At some point close to this(give or take), the scales so to speak start getting more out of balance one way or the other, depending on which way you are going. For instance trying to gain, your fat gain will outpace your muscle gain, and the other way your muscle loss may start to outpace your fat loss. This is not written in stone, but it is a simple crude rule of thumb that N=1 and anecdotal research seems to indicate.

In other words this may be point in which you start to monitor things very closely to minimize unwanted gains or losses. 'Flexible' dieting plays a large role here to help.

That being said, do not stop doing your cardio. This is an important attribute to a healthy cardivascular system.

A little discipline at the table and at the gym might help reduce that belly!
