Okay I have read so much about all of this that I think my brain has an overload of info. And I can't seem to make sense of it. #1 My trainer told me that I have to do 5-6 days of intense (get my heart rate up BLAH BLAH) cardio. (I always thought she was trying to kill me:)) Anyways I have been reading that it is better to lift weights and do cardio on none lifting days, Do I have it right so far.
So I go to the gym monday - friday would it ideally be my goal to lift weights Mon Wed and Fri and do cardio intensly on Tue and Wed instead of 5 days of both. Some one please I am sure I have read all of this some where but personally I neeed some one to tell me the right thing. I do not want to look like those "cardio bunnies" all bones I want to look ..... GOOD. Healthy , Fit Not manly either I know that I won't by lifting weights. I also know some of you have read my posts and know how much I hate cardio and are wondering if this my excuse to get out of it. AND for your info it is and I think it is a very good one HA :love: :dumbbell:My husband also does cardio 5 days a week. We are both over weight but not extremely I am 5'5" 170 lbs he is 6'4" and 275ish Thanks for your help and encouragement. In advance |

Uh oh... I thought it was that you are supposed to do weights and THEN do cardio immediately after??? That's what I've been doing. If someone tells you we can alternate days, I'm totally jumping on that! I tell ya what though... doing BOTH each day makes me feel so good about myself but COMPLETELY drained. My arms feel like stinkin JELLO! LOL. Anyway, sorry I don't know the answer, but I'm eagerly waiting with you to find out what it is!

If you must do weights and cardio the same day, then do weights firts. Unless you are doing simply warm up cardio.
Any intense cardio like HIIT will suck needed glycogen and you will not achieve from the weights what you could. -------------- Maximus from Gladiator....Strength and Honor! |

I do weights then cardio. I just hate doing them both in the same day. That's what Isually do but it is killer but I don't want to do weights then intense cardio and kill myself for nothing.

So, BB1 (I had to type that 3 times to not type BBQ...LOL... that's the Texas part of me I think) anyway... so BB1, are you saying that alternating would be better than doing both? I also do weights and then cardio but by the end of the cardio thing, I'm dead. Are you giving me permission to alternate?? ;)

Try to do the cardio and weights on different days - if you do them on the same day, separate the times such as cardio in the am and weigths in the pm.

OK HERE's ADVICE FROM A FAT GUY!
I do weights then Cardio! and yes on same day I do 4x a week weights since weightlifting does more good to burn fat 24/7 then cardio, and by intense cardio means getting your heart rate into the zone, not necessarily killing yourself like I imagine you're doing...good to invest in a heart rate watch for working out...anyway I do weights then 2 mile run walk in my neighborhood after weight i usually do a cool down from workout about 10-20 mins rehydrate then go running...i find it helpful for cardio after weights because it allows you to stretch out your muscles some you know like arms when your running |

Ideally you want to do your wts and cardio on different days. That way you can give both your full attention! Unfortunatley, due to time restraints, this isn't always easy for everyone to do. Sooo, if you have to do both on the same day, try and separate them by 6-8 hours, and if you can't do that, then do wts followed by cardio.

So either way I go it's not going effect the rate at which I lose weight. I really was looking for that excuse to do more weights less cardio( cardio only 2-3 days a week) :dumbbell::big_smile:I might still try that breaking it up. or maybe do lighter cardio on days I lift and HIIT on days I don't lift. I tried doing the gym in the morning bfore work at 330 am and I don't think I got any benefit since I slept walked through most of it. By the way I am not much of a morning person. So I think I will try breaking it up some. Thanks for all the input. I know I am a big baby about the cardio. I would be so happy if all i had to do was lift weights.

Do weights as #1 priority...2-3 days a week total body training or some split focusing on big lifts....
On days off from lifting do Interval training, HIIT, or sets of sprints. Nice and sweet. You can be done in 20 minutes. 3-4 days a week However your ultimate success will lie in your nutrition. You can be the most fit person on earth and still be overweight. You must eat well adn in correct portions. | |

If you are excessively overweight...then it really will make little difference. The more fat mass you have, the more fat you will burn no matter what you do in what order. Once you get leaner, then the 'order' you do them in will start to matter much more.-------------- Maximus from Gladiator....Strength and Honor! |
