I recently started working out again and I have a way to go to get to my goal of 150.I am 251 5'3 and most of my weight is in my lower body.I wanted to only work out on machines and not free weights. What machines, how long, and how many reps should I do to where I wont bulk up.I was always had a voluptous figure(very chesty 38DD,small weight, and nice hips and behind like Janet Jackson). What would you suggest?

You got a 100 pound goals I believe you need to invest in a real good trainer at a local gym!
By the way without taking hormone stuff a women won't bulk up hence this is why you see most women body builders looking very lean and men huge!
It takes testosterone to bulk up and you don't have engough in you because your a girl!

I suggest you read the "ladies please print and read' posted in the womens forum by asimmer...I think you will find it interesting...and you may want to look through the FAQ forum.

I always wonder why some women refuse to do freeweights even though those are the very things that will get most results....what will machines do? relatively little....even for a beginner...I understand why people prefer machines(they are easy, easy to change weight, no need to stabilize anything)...
You got 100+ lb to lose. You will need to put priority on #1 nutrition #2 cardiovascular exercise #3 lifting weights(gets results slower but best at helping u keep what you got)
No freeweights wont make u manly, buff, bulky, etc....it will on the other hand help you shed bodyfat as good as cardio in some aspect....especially basics with barbells....yes woman should do them also and they will get awesome benefits and results...at 251 you have quite a bit of muscle to carry all that weight...so it's a great way to retain more muscle while dieting...
BOTTOM LINE: if your weight training is not centered around BIG COMPOUND FREEWEIGHT exercises you're wasting time, energy, money, effort, potential additional results, etc...yes you can always incorporate machines, isolation exercises(bicep curls, leg curls)but they should not be the core parts of your workouts

I can attest to weights not adding bulk for women. Last year at this time I bought size 6 pants for the first time. I had lost 5 lbs. and had just dropped from a size 8 (my smallest size up to that point). When I bought those size 6 pants, they fit me perfectly, and I was elated. Although I had been working out sporadically, using mostly machines, some free weights and watching my diet, I didn't get really serious about lifting heavy free weights until this past April.
Yesterday, after 7 months of working out seriously with free weights, I was wearing those size 6 pants and they are WAY too big. My best size now is a size 4 (never in my life did I even entertain the notion that I could ever be a size 4). But guess what? Today I weigh exactly what I weighed when I bought those pants a year ago.
