My husband played BBall with the kids at his school on Friday, and decided to start working out because he felt so out of shape. I've got him on the home training program here, and also the specialized ab program.

Saturday when he was talking with my mom and telling her about the ab program, she asked if he was doing sit up's or crunches, and he said crunches. He then went on to tell her that the reason why he has the bulging abs he has now is because of doing many improper sit ups. Is there any truth to this? Even at his wrestling weight, he never had washboard abs. He had a six pack to be sure, but the muscles were VERY...sticky outy. Could sit ups really do that??

I am not sure what the question is? Are you asking if improper sit-ups create big ab muscles?

Maybe he just has genetically bulgy ab muscles?

Tell him to focus on pulling in around his waist while tucking his rib cage in towards his hips during the crunches.

I've heard about this...I think shes asking if it's possible to train your ab muscle to stick out...say when you do your situp..instead of focusing on it laying flat...being smooth....you just let the muscle pop up like a dome...wow...hard to explain..I do it all the time,I had a trainer once tell me the same thing...that if you don't focus on keeping that abdominal muscle flat,it will pop up and then it gets trained to pop out instead of lay flat...I don't know if that makes any sense..but I've heard the same thing.

KC you've got the idea. If improper sit ups can cause big bulgey ab muscles, or if it's something thats genetic. The closest thing I can compare his abs to are the abs on the guys in the WSM competition. They aren't overweight, don't normally have fat on their stomachs, yet their abs protrude a lot. The dome shape.
