I'm attending a class at my gym and we are doing a range of motion project concentrating on hamstring flexibility. Lay on your back and raise one leg in the air keeping the other leg flat on the floor. Make sure your raised leg is straight as possible. After a few seconds of stretching, is your raised leg 90 degrees or more from the ground? If so, you're considered to have good range of motion. If not, then a stretching program is recommended. I'm interested to find out how many people can actually do this? I couldn't...I suck big time!!

Everyone in Fitness should be able too with the exception of after a week or two off and then having a Killer Leg Day in the Gym!

It's my opinion that if your into fitness and you aren't flexible your most likely a chronic injury prone person!

You can lift all the weight in the world and maintain great range of motion and flexibility, you just have to stretch!

When you start getting older it's about flexibility and stability and the stronger you are there the stronger you are under a barbell and ect!

I'm not talking about having a pilates day or yoga in your work outs either although I'm sure there nice but it's not for me!

Stretching takes me 5 to 10 minutes! I also stretch inbetween sets at times especially after a week or 2 off!

I can't..when I try..I feel like the muscle behind my knee will tear...I have never been a flexible person though...could never touch my toes.

um...and I'm not prone to injury MVP...knock on wood...I have never been injured...my shoulder is a bit tender now...but that was from improper form on side lats.

Like MVP said.."Stretch" as an old fart here, I was able to do it. But maybe I was born that way!

I just had one of my buddies help me do a PNF stretch on my hamstrings. WOW...talk about tight! I definately need to make stretching a priority, especially since I'm beginning to have lower back issues.

Hmm...am I misunderstanding? Just lay on your back with one leg flat on the ground and the other straight up? Am able to do this with no problem. I don't know .. I haven't been stretching like I should lately, but have done quite a bit of yoga and pilates in the past. But I don't recall ever not having been able to do 90 degrees at least.

For all though having trouble, start out using a towel to help you reach to make your stretch!

My hamstrings have always been tight!!! I can get to about 45 degrees...after that I'm straining and grimacing. I suck!
