I am notoriousl bad at subject lines so forgive the nonsense. Okiedokie here goes;

Beginning of July I was diagnosed with Kidney Failure. Yeah, it sucks. I am lucky enough that my Creatinine and BUN arent at the point where I require dialysis, I am in the 17-20% functional range.

I do have a living donor lined up, but the Doc says I gotta drop some pounds. So, I have started workin out. Gots a few probs:

I gotta stick to a low sodium, heart healthy diet, and I REALLY need to watch my protein intake. I have a clinical dietician, and she says that my protein intake has got to go pretty much by feel. When I feel tired, I may need more protein, and I got to try to get it from some other source other than meat.

I am currently on a few BP meds(side effect of kidney disease, High Blood Pressure) and they are no fun to try to withstand some days. They really drop the octane level if you get my meaning. Since I started working out again, I have found that I can lift weights normally, I get 10 minutes into cardio and I get dizzy as all hell(almost fell off the eliptical today... tee hee). So I cant really train as hard as I would like. Thougts?

Third. The dreaded DOMS.... Anti-Inflammatories are out. Supplements are out, unless they have zero kidney effect. I do some stretching before and after the exercises, but I gotta tell ya, my arms have had it today. Suggestions?

Thats all I got. Any and all commentaries welcome.

Later....

Train with weights and stick with easy walking as you can tolerate it. weight lifting will get your heart rate up and will burn calories.

Being on a low sodium, heart healthy diet should help you to lose weight, as well. Focus on lots of fresh vegetables.

As far as protein sources other than meat - why not fish or chicken breast? You could also choose lowfat dairy products or eggbeaters or eggwhites. beans will give you some protein, and if you eat whole grains within a day you will have all the necessary aminos to be complete protein.

If you can't train hard you shouldn't be experiencing too much DOMS. It should lessen as your muscles get conditioned to working out. In the meantime, stretching, massaging the muscles, icy hot or some type of muscle rub if it is allowed, a nice warm bath.

Good luck to you and I hope everything turns out alright.
