i work out 6 days a week, sometimes even 7. is a day of rest necessary? is it hurting my body working out this much or only benefiting?

You should take at least one day off... but, it all depends what your goals are and what your routine is.

Taking a day off is good for muscle growth... if you don't give a chance for the muscles to grow, well, they won't. Take a day or two off a week... maintain a clean diet... and you should be good.... I try to throw in cardio on my off weight days...

I agree you need to have a day of rest.. If you really went at it through the week days then take the weekends off. Even though your trying to stay fit and reach a fitness goal you can still have time to enjoy the weekend. :)

well... technically if you cycle your exercises so your not doing chest every other day and all your other stuff is in line (sleep, nutrition, training, etc) then technically you could do it as long as its not hurting you. the real issue is overtraining tho... by working out 6-7times a week (all weight training) you will surely burn yourself out. however, if you did like (i would say at most) 5days of lifting and then on the others do some cardio or just rest.. you could probably get away with it.

I would give yourself at least one good day of rest from all.
