I do some manual labor at work and usually lift weights after work. I want to try lifting in the morning. After all, I would rather be tired on their time. Do I need to worry about recovery time? How much time? Do I need to eat before I lift? How long? Thanks.

You most definitely should eat before lifting, and after. With your energy expenditure(weights and your manual labor job), you will have a high energy expenditure, so you will have to have a caloric intake to match your needs if you plan to gain any muscle.

Thanks. Is there a time period that I should eat before a quick run and lifting? And is it ok that I will only have about an hour to cool down before work?

I actually enjoy training right before work. I find it helps me focus. Besides that, I like a liquid meal within an hour of training, and a real meal any further out.
