Okay guys,

Starting this weekend is my kick off for the intense training for the STP this July. I have lost a good amount of weight, but still need lots more to go to be in shape for this. My routine right now is at a stand still and am asking the advice of the pros on what types of routines I can do that will help me benefit for this race.

I am not really into winning it for speed, I just want to complete it. 200 miles in 2 days, that is 100 miles a day, last summer before the severe rain hit, I had reached an 86 mile ride in 1 day, so I know I can do this.

I am going to try tracking my workouts, training and what I eat for this at least once a week for progress and so I can look back on it and see what I need to change up, etc and for those who would like to pitch me advice.

Any help will be appreciated as far as diet, exercises, cardio goes.

Wish me luck!

WOW!!! Good Luck!!! That is an awesome goal you have there. I can hardly wait to give that one a try myself. I love riding my bike, I practicly grew up on it:big_smile: I live in the Seattle area, is this an annual event? I think I could be ready for it next year:)

It's about damn time!! Another Seattlelite. lol!

yes the STP is a yearly event and pretty nationwide as well. They have over 8000 people riding this event from all over the world and all ages. It is pretty awesome.

As far as riding my whole life...nah, never really was into roadbiking (except on the back of a harley) growing up, i grew up with a surf board..lol I actually came upon this when RW started working at REI as a Bike Technician and he begged me to ride with him one day. I did and I was hooked. That was last year. So this is something different for me and a whole new area of fitness I have not yet explored.

Check out the link below if you'd like for more details on the STP:

I would have a hills day(30-50 miles, low intensity distance day on mostly flats(50-80 miles), and a HIIT day on a mixed surface(20-40 miles)....

I am thinking you probably need to bump up caloric intake by 1000 calories probably....especially complex carbs and healthy fats....with a slight boost in protein.....

Good luck Bettia, sounds like a great challenge! I start training for my first triathlon soon and the bike portion is actually my weak point, so I'll absorb any advice others give you!

I hate hills!! Absolutely hate them on a bike..lol! Make me run them, make me walk them, make me climb them, but on a bike...I know, I have to do it as we have two steep hills in this race, the rest is pretty level ground and the HELL if I am gonna walk that damn bike up them. Hills will give me the endurance I need.
Thanks Leo, I will definitely implement some of those god awful hills into my regime. The food was a great tip too.

Fly I know what you mean, I did a triathalon with my sisters a few years back (quite a few) and I had the swim portion, that is my weakness, it was hard to train for it as I wasn't a strong swimmer at the time, which was odd because I was awesome on the surf in Cali, but we came out good in the end.

And why not now Manny? There is no better time then the present...besides this is my first year of doing this as well.

What kind of bike do you have?

Training days will be on the weekend for the long rides. Send me an IM if you are interested.

There is no way that I would be ready for something so big this year. I've been out of shape and overweight for a long time. I just started to work on getting back in shape last May. When I do this I want to (will) be in great shape and no longer overweight. To do the race will be a reward for me:) I also do not have a street bike right now, just a Mountain Bike. I just bought a really nice one last summer.

Hills workouts will be brutal...my apologies...LOL.....listen to your body and change the intensity accordingly on any given day....good luck with the race Bettia, I know you'll do well...

And look at you laughing at me while you imagine me trucking up those hills...LOL that is just wrong!

My friends over here want me to put it online with pictures included. Can you imagine that! This big heffer riding on these tiny wheels up hills in bike pants (not that i needed the extra padding sheesh!) LMAO!! I am already laughing at myself. LOL!

it's all good, my riding partner just damaged their shoulder and will most likely have to have surgery so I guess i am going this one alone.

Looks like i will be needing lots of motivation from my FT family. :):love: ...and maybe a few kicks in the ass when i even think of slacking.
