I am a 26y.o overweight female. I just began my fitness program recently and when I do cardio, my heart rate is always high. I am out of shape so my rate is high when I am not even working very hard. I am at abhout 85% of my max heart rate, I guess working in the cardio range instead of the fat burning range. I want to lose fat but if I am working in that percentage, am I still going to lose fat?

TIA

Go by what your body tells you....the more fit you become the lower your resting heart rate will become....if all yu can do is walk for a short period of time...do not try and run for a long period...this is how people keel over...each day go a bit longer at a more intense pace but keep track of your hr....the little charts on the machines are just estimates....

I don't really feel tired or completely out of breath when I am exercising at the pace I do. I am obviously not going as fast as some people but I feel like I am getting a good work out. I just want the best results from my workouts, so I want to do it right.

Thanks for your reply lonegirl.

Lonegirl makes good points. Let your body "tell" you. As you get better, it will get obvious. Then you will see progression. My wife is diabetic, had high bp, etc. When she first started she was maybe good for 10 minutes with much the same problems. She can now go on and on and on...like the energizer bunny. Give it time.

Don't worry about how fast other people are going, just concentrate on YOU. I also have a high heartrate. When I first started working out again back in May of last year it was crazy high. 100 at rest and up to 170 while working out. I felt fine until I hit the 165+ then I got a bit dizzy and slowed down. I even went and saw a Doctor, we did all the test. In the end he said, everything is normal and some people just have a higher heartrate than others. And in addition comes being overweight. Our bodies and especially our hearts have to work so much harder. Today my heartrate is down to 80 at rest and 155 during workouts. It's like the other 2 already said. LISTEN to your body. And don't forget DIET plays a large role in losing fat! Good Luck:)

Hmmm i think what she was asking is the same problem i have. My Hr bounces during hitt from 160-182. I know im not in shape, but the work out even at 182 dosent seem as tough as it should be to get up that high. AKA In order for my body to feel like im getting a good work out, i have to stay in that range, even though the machine says that 182 is to high. Does that sound odd to anyone?
