Not Losing Quick Enough-Can I Do Better?

I would cut diet coke...other than making money for Coke corporation you're doing very little for your health/nutrition...name 1 thing that is good in D coke...

I would cut mayo...light or not....mustard is fine...try some other spices as well if you want to change the taste of everyday foods a bit...

Your diet overall sounds pretty good..but remember to keep your eye on the overall calorie intake...that's the bottom line....not losing weight fast enough? shave 50-100 calories of your meals...that's about 300 calories...you may instead add more cardio to your workout regimen...or both....depending on your results....

generally if u are losing 1 lb a week then you're succeeding....anything over 2lb a week and you're doing too much...losing too much muscle....despite those Celebrity Weight Loss shows on Vh1, where sometimes the overweight celebs are told to lose as much as 10 lb in 2 weeks....it's not healthy...just think how long it took to put on that weight.....that's how long it should take to lose it...sometimes more due to plateaus....

Hello. I was hoping to get some advice from some of the poeple here. I wanted to get some feedback from some of the "Guru's" here on my program I have been on since the beginning of the year. Please let me know if I should change anything or if I am doing okay. But first, a little background:

I have been running off and on for the past 4 years. I say off and on since I will run 3-4 days a week for 3-4 months and then take off a month or two. But since last April, I have been pretty consistant, running 5 miles about 3-4 days a week in the 10-11 minute mile range. I only ran about once a week during November and December though due to my wife's pregnancy. I feel I am in decent shape with a short, stocky build and probably around 17% body fat. Of course, it is mostly seen on my stomach which is what I would LOVE to lose! I have also been lifting weights for about 1 1/2 years consistantly, mostly upper body exercises but stopped in December due to being on Paternity leave (The gym was at work).

So since January 2nd, I have been running almost every other day 5 miles. It goes something like this:

Monday-5 miles on a slight grade, going up about 4/10 mile, going down about 4/10 mile with 2/10 mile flat surface.

Wednesday-5 miles on a track stopping at every 1/2 mile and doing 25 push-ups.

Friday-5 miles on a track starting the first 1/2 mile with a moderate jog for a warm up. Then sprinting the straights and slow jogging the turns for 4 miles with the last 1/2 mile at a moderate jog for cool down.

Sunday-5 miles running either the slight grade up and down or just on a flat surface at around a 10 minute mile pace since it is about as fast as I can go and still be able to finish all 5 miles.

Of course, there are some Sunday's that I skip but I am trying to be consistant without overtraining.

Mostly, my goal is to lose my body fat (Mostly my stomach), increase my cardio endurance and enhance my overall strength with the push ups. My wife just bought me a "Smith-Type" machine but it is not totally put together yet. When I get it together and buy some weights, I will begin lifting again. So, any suggestions on how I can do better or am I doing it all wrong?

Thanks.

What do you eat on a daily basis?

Well, I TRY to eat right. I stay away from the sugary snacks like cupcakes, candy bars, etc. Although I do slip every once in a while (maybe a peice of cake for a birthday or once every other week a slice or two of pizza). And of course, about once a week, I over indulge in food. It is usually not that bad of food but I know I over eat that one day a week. But the rest of the time, my diet is good and I try to eat small meals about 4-5 times a day.

I am begining to think that asimmer's signiture by Leo Buscaglia is correct...I may have answered my own question here........HAVE I, or is my diet not too bad?

As amy and BB always say if you are not changing your body (either gaining weight or losing it) it is almost always the diet. My thought also is with all the cardio you do the body may think it is in a type of starvation mode. That means all your food is going to go as body fat to help the body prepare for the running..but you really need to post a complete diet. I think that is the key.

So, again... what do you eat on a typical day - specifically?

dart as amy bb1 and mutt have touched on diet here is key. If you want to lower BF% you need to post what you eat daily, specifics. What do your 4 or 5 small meals consist of, specifically, is it whole grain or just whole wheat, be specific. It sounds like your heading in the right direction, the diet is key though, that is why they want to know specifics. Good luck!

gotta be blunt here....you're deluding yourself...cheat meals are an occassional occurrenc(usually healthy) once a week at a specific amount for which u can account for and do extra cardio/lifting to burn off the extra unneeded calories which serve as your motivation.....you on the other hand eat #1 unhealthy meals #2 as you admitted, you overeat #3 your cheat meals can coincide with other activities(like BDs, parties, holidays)...so you end up eating way too many calories...

READ LABELS: always check 'per serving' or '#of servings' because a lot of the time your cheat foods will have several servings in one container/package....
MAKE CONSISTANT DECISIONS: if you had your cheat meal for the week.....then that's it....no more junk food for the rest of the week, no matter if the president himself calls you and invites you to the white house for a feast

You are all correct and I appreciate the advice. Like today, I had some scrambled eggs with chicken (small portioin) for breakfast, then for lunch, Jack In The Box Ciabatta grilled chicken sandwich and a diet coke and for dinner, we went out to Sizzler. I had the salad bar with vinigrette dressing and all veggies. But I also had one slice of cheese bread and about 4 peices of chicken with the skin peeled off.

Today was not really a typical day though. Usually I will eat some cereal for breakfast, usually Life with non fat milk, some peanut butter crackers for snack, a chicken burrito on wheat tortilla or a turkey sandwich with light mayo and mustard, a protein/power bar for snack, some type of chicken dish with rice and vegatables like broccoli and for snack at night, usually another protein/power bar or a Muscle Milk protein shake.

Please continue to be as Menace3000 said, "Blunt", honest and critical with me as I need the advice (Okay, well, don't be TOO harsh on me though).

Thanks for all of the help.

Thanks for the advice menace. I have given thought of using Hydroxycut to get rid of the stubborn layer of fat on my stomach. Is that advisable?
