Hi, I've just started doing a normal bicep or hammer curl, and at full contraction shoulder pressing it. Is there any name for this, and does it break the tension in the curl, have a derogitary effect etc ?..

Not sure what you are referring to....could you be a bit more specific. Sounds a bit like Zottman curls, but hard to tell from your description.

I do a normal hammer curl, then when the DB reaches its peak height, I turn the DB's palm facing outwards then press them overhead. Is that a stupid way to go about it?

Sounds like you combined the Zottman curl and an Arnold press. :)

I have my clients combine those moves to save time.

The only thing I see as a possible problems is that you may be able to pres more than you curl, so you aren't getting as deeply into the shoulder muscles as you could be. i know I can comfortably press a bit more than I can curl (more muscles are working to press than to curl).

I guess it kind of depends on your goals - my clients are not as concerned with mass as I am, so combining the two makes it an easy way to include more muscle groups in a workout.
