Hi Chris, the best time to do cardio is when you have the time to do cardio. Do not worry about what time of day you do it...just do it regularly and at a good intensity for about 30min. Try doing cardio 3X/week and add in some resistance training 3X/week.

Good luck!

Hey guys,

I have a big problem. Well not really big however the way I think of it, it might be. I heard the best time to do your cardio workout is usually in the mornings because it aids in burning more fat because your body is just getting up. However the problem arises is because I am not a morning person and therefore find it really difficult to wake up in the morning to do my cardio workout at the gym. I have no problem going to the gym after I am done work and all its jsut that when I am at home and comfy, I get too comfortable. Whats the difference between doing my cardio in the morning (8am) instead of evening (6pm)? Is there really that much more significant difference? Please help as I want to lose some weight and feel better but I find it so difficult to wake up.

fly is right again...If you think you'll be able to commit to going to the gym more in the afternoon then by all means go in the afternoon. Do what you need to do to get in the habit, then down the road you might just realize you'll feel better and waking up in the morning will become easier to you, as your body becomes more efficient.

Either way working out at any time is better then not working out at all.

weight training can be useful to do in the morning b/c that's when your test levels are highest during the day...however cardio can be done anytime you have time during the day...just don't go to intense too close before bedtime...

Thanks for all the responses guys. I just was always under the impression that I had to get in the morning to do it in order for it to be significant.

How many times should a person do it a week? I was thinking 3x's a week would be good since I would incorporate 3 days of training with the other days I have available. Any suggestions? And in terms of cardio, which machines are the best to get the best workout from? I know the last question is more personal preference but I'd like to hear what you guys have to say. Thanks again.

It's best to switch machines now and again... the body will get used to doing five miles on the treadmill... so swap to a bike or an eliptical every so often. The body will adapt and get used to repetitive things.

I do HIIT before supper. HIIT can boost your metabolism also for up to 18 hours (someone correct me if I'm wrong) afterwards. It helps a lot because metabolism slows down during the day so its low at night. HIIT in the late afternoon helps to burn calories at night.

I personally don't like treadmills - I have long legs and tend to kick the top of the track. The length of the treadmill is too short me for. Its fine for walking, but when I run, I prefer to run outside or indoor track.

If you can keep a routine going after work hey that's better then trying to do it in the morning where you may not be able to make it a routine. I think it depends on the person - I myself am not a morning person either. So do when you can - just do it!
