I have heard of routines that use squats for a weight that you could normally get 10 reps with and going for 20 with it. I have heard if you eat a lot and get enough rest you could gain as much as 30 lbs in 6 weeks with this. I want to know from people that have experience with it, is it really more trouble than its worth? It seems like it's talked about as if only a handful of people can do a 6 week cycle of it...

I think it's not as popular as other programs because it can only be used periodically to shock your body into new muscle and strength gains....there are also a variety of 20 rep squat programs...this is just one of them.......30lb in 6 weeks? very hard to believe even for a beginner...

Have you been able to do it before? I really need something to shock me into growth and stuff because I am really getting nowhere with my strength and muscle gains etc... I am even on a cutting phase now so I can lower my caloric requirements to build the muscle so it won't be as difficult..

Brutally painful, brutally effective. However, like menace said, most people can only do it for 6 weeks max. IF that. "Supersquats" By Randall Strossen(?)
It is basicly breathing squats, done for 20 reps, with what you would normally done for 10 regular squats. I feel it is not as popular, because it is brutally difficult. Popularity does not always show efficiency.
If you made it for 6 weeks, I would be surprised. If you did it, and didn't gain mass faster than you do with most programs, then I would be equally surprised.
30lbs in 6 weeks will not be entirely muscle mass. I think half that would be a better goal.
However, if you tried it on during a cutting phase, it might just kill you. I used it my freshman year when I needed to (get this...) put ON weight for wrestling. I was 82lbs when the minimum weight was 90lbs.

Hrrm, well I am probably going to cut down to maybe 134 or 135 lbs at around 8-10% bodyfat... if I then began the whole 20 rep squat routine I could be around 150 lbs at about the same body fat which would be good for a height of 5'6'"

I worked out at home at the time. It was preseason, but I couldn't train on days I did it. I basicly sat on my couch, and ate. That was all I could manage after wards. Some days, I didn't even make it through the rest of the workout, I finished my squats and was like, "to hell with this". I've heard a lot of good feedback about it, but don't expect to survive on it. Also, like menace said, it will shock your body, but it is not a long term program.

i tried this back in the glory days of squatting. it was definately a shock to the system. as long as you pick a weight that you can do with good form for the entire 20 reps you should be okay...that being said wrestler and menace are both correct. personally i did it for like 4 weeks and i had pretty good results with it, but when i went back to it a couple of weeks it was pretty rough. i had to back off and go back to my regular routine which was basically stacking.

I personally wouldn't struggle with this program for more than a week or two....just use it as a new stimulus to shock my body into new gains but that's all....it's like doing 1rep deadlift every single week or twice a week.....it will eventually...and more than likely very quickly kill you......

Take your 10 rep max in the free squat. Do 20 reps with it. This will be agonizingly painful, and will take a long time. Do this 3 times per week. Follow it with an upper body circuit. Add 5lbs every week.
This will be incredibly painful. You will eat a lot. in supersquats, mr strossen recommends about a gallon of milk a day.
I wouldnt try it if you are a novice lifter.
