14 inches (thats right, and im damn proud of it) and 285lbs. Sad thing is, thats what I was doing 9 months ago before injurying myself.
I think thats the first time I've ever measured anything other than weight.

ach. I'm happy @ my weight. If I stop MMA and grappling, I may decide to put on some weight. Till then...
I really don't have legs. I'm 140 @ 6'. Perfect build for rock climbing (just another activity where weight is a concern). It's all those years of cutting weight for wresting coming back to bite me in the ass.

ok, i feel like an ass. being my first time measuring anything, i screwed up. That should be 18.5 inches.
Not that it makes a difference.
I will say this, if I pursue physiology, I do realize I may need to put on 20-30 lbs before people will take me seriously. It is a blessing and a curse all at once.

wrestler what's your bodyfat like? what's your vertical like?....i am guessing your lifts/explosiveness will explode if you put on some size(170-180@6-8%)....

i bet it's hard to maintain certain weight, knowing u can gain a lot in the weight room if u just move up a bit....for me it's a struggle too because I like basketball and love to jump high..and perhaps try to fulfill a dream of mine to dunk....but as long as I am over 200, it's very difficult....I soar above the rim it seems when i am right around 200..but loose like 6-7 inches once I creep towards 220.....eh

Yep, unfortunately, it is a visual world. Most folks unconciously if nothing else are going to want to be trained by someone who "looks" the part. This is unfortunate, big does not equate to smart.

i think it depends....wrestler still sounds like he's in great shape and he definitely sounds the part....he's definitely not the guy with the 'i am 9 months pregnant look' which is the case for trainers at some gyms i been to...and no they are not strongman/powerlifters...

Agreed completely....just a point...even subconciously, if you put him and a bodybuilder next to each other in the gym away from the client and point to the 2 of thema and ask a new trainee who they want to train them, more than likely they will pick the guy who "looks the part". Though as mentioned, bigger does not equate to smarter, it is the visual concept that will usually make the choice. It is unfortunate, as you are right, wrestler is a smart guy. Just proves my point, bigger does not mean smarter.

bodyfat usually under 9%. In season and coming to a fight, it dips to around 6. Your right though, its real hard. Sometimes I just want to put on 10-15 lbs just to bring my lifts up. I know the best thing for my squat would be an extra 10 lbs. As for my vert, I don't know. Never trained it, but I can almost dunk.

If I go up in weight much more, it will be about 20lbs. In NHB/MMA, weight classes jump 25lbs at a time. so id be going from 145 fighting at 140 to 160 fighting at 165.
Ron is completely right. Most people I talk to are skeptical as to whether I know what I am talking about, especially when I say the 200lb trainer is doing something wrong, lol. That is why, outside of this site and a few other places, I don't give help unless asked.

When I was working in a gym, I ended up going from someone no one wanted to work with, to the most requested trainer at the gym. I got results, clients talked, I became popular. This is the one positive: results speak better than any "look".

I guess we are in the same boat wrestler..people look at me and think I know more about twinkie eating then weight lifting. It is very frustrating to say the least.

Ay. It is the curse of being a powerlifter, whether light-weight or heavy weight.
Its ok though.
A trainer walked in the gym while my parnter and I are squatting. 225 on the bar, medium box squat. Pyramiding up, on our 3rd work set. This trainer with a 20-30 y/o guy comes in.
The trainer turns to his client, and points to us. "See those two little guys, they're overtraining. They'll never get stronger training like that." I really wanted to laugh. The client looks at andy finish his set, just in time for me to slap another 25lb plate on each side. The guys taking a look at the weight, then at us, and he looked confused. I just winked at him and went back to work.

Yeah, unfortunately most newbies don't know enough to ask the correct questions of trainers when they start.

A few well placed questions can easily weed out who knows what they are doing. It is a shame, every kid with a bump on his arm is now a personal trainer.

I have overheard some trainers in gyms telling clients things that just make my skin crawl. I have learned to bite my tongue though.

I would opt to be trained by Wrestler just from asking a few questions over 80% of the trainers I have seen in gyms.
