Is it really impossible to gain more than 2 lbs of muscle a month? I have been working out with good diet etc and it seems like it is not possible to do this...

In the beginning it is not. Newbie gains can be pretty phenominal so take advantage of them if you are.
This is not written in stone by any means, but without "cheating", with a solid diet and hard training, real expectations are that an individual can gain a maximum of 4 lbs. of muscle per year for evey 100 lbs. of bodyweight they possess. This of course translates to a 200 lb. individual having a maximum potential to gain 8 lbs. of muscle per year, and that in itself being all natural would be a very good gain.
Again, this is not to say you cannot gain more. Being realistic is key. If you gain 2 lbs. per month, you are doing dam good.

Well I don't get it then, I have only been training for pretty much exactly 4 months. I redid my diet, have new exercises, and I'm still stuck at around 140 lbs...

If you are not gaining, it is a product of insufficient diet for your energy expenditure, metabolic rate, etc.

In layman's terms you need to eat more...aim for 5-6 medium sized meals a day..myself i get 4-5 meals a day along with two or three weight-gainer shakes.

Welcome to the reality of bodybuilding. In 19 years I have gained 15 lbs and I am 12% body fat. (Female)
Consisteance, patience and realistic goals, one work out at a time you will achieve lean muscle mass. Natural is longivity, steriods are ego. STAY REAL.
