AHHH!! I need some help.

I used to be very very involved with exercise. I was at the gym at least 4X per week, I had a no sugar diet...pretty intense for a 16 year old. Then I picked up smoking for about 1.5 yrs. Not as long as most smoke for, but I did get addicted to it enough so that it's been a struggle to stop. I finally quit about 2 weeks ago. I'm worried about the normal weight gain that often comes along with quitting, but candy is one of the things that really helps me to curb cravings. I am at the gym at least 5X per week, though, and whatnot. Is there anything else I can do about trying to avoid weight gain? :surprised:

u should eat a healthy diet and do cardio and weihgt training. running is very good. i dont think u'll gain much weight anyway by just quitting smoking.

When I quit I didn't gain weight. If you eat when you would have smoked you probably will gain weight!

You do have to be consciously aware of what you're substituting for the cigarettes. That hand-to-mouth habit is harder to break than the drug additction. Your body is clear of nicotine after 3-5 days, so if you survive week 1, you're no longer "hooked" chemically, now the battle of the physical habit begins.
If you're aware of what you put in your mouth you'll be fine. I chewed on those plastic stir-stix that you use for coffee for the first while. Not great for my teeth I'm sure, but it stopped me from replacing the hand-to-mouth activity with food! Chewing gum and ALWAYS having your water bottle in your hand helps too.

Just my experience.

You will be fine. And much more healthy. Although nicotine has shown minor influences on weight, it is not enough to warrant smoking in any way. Proper diet and exercise will take you much, much farther.
