I'm a petite female and I've been trying to get more defined arms. They are scrawny and don't have much meat on them to begin with. I want well definec arms. It'd be cool to show off some muscle :). What are some good exercises with dumb bells and machines to use.

get one off of here.........many workouts to choose from.........also...more "defined" usually means you need less body fat.

groovergirl--

First of all, don't doo too many sets....I´d suggest many 2 sets and 2 excersises with 12 reps each set for both, biceps and triceps..do them the way that on the first set of each excersise you could get maybe 15 reps but the 2nd set is hard to get 12 reps (I mean the weight u gotta choose). Basically you can just do DUMBELL CURLS and a machine that your gym does have for biceps and for triceps, you can find whatever machine your gym has =)
For DEFINED arms, low bodyfat levels are a must - but getting them really defined as girl will be very tough - but they can definately be improved =) Hope this helps.

2 sets? 2 excercises?........

for arms one need more than to do curls "dag" deltoid.....triceps....biceps...forarms.etc all all on the arm........therefore curls wouldn't hit all that.

She did ask for arms and I basically don't count shoulders in.
And yes, I think 2sets of each of the 2 excersises will be way enough.

agree with bigA...you need to do alot more than 2 sets..2 exercises!! As he says, check out the FT programs. You want to work shoulders for sure, got to have good looking shoulders to have good looking arms! I'd suggest bicept curls, tricept kickbacks, front raises, lat raises...there's lots more you can do. I prefer to use freewieghts, but the machines are ok to start. Check out the exercise glossery for tons of other ideas. 2 set, 2 exercises .....Don't worry about getting "big" it is extremely difficult for women to get "big"!!

Why should one need more than 4 sets overall? More does NOT Mean better - seriously. Why else would programs like Doggcrapp, HIT, WestSide Barbell work? Of course, if you count in shoulders, it will be like 3 more sets so a total of 7 for arms - that is, by far, enough in my opinion.

west side does 8 sets of like 3.....or 10 sets of 3.....not 2 sets..........even for axhilaries they do 3 sets.

my favs for biceps
bb curls, db curls, hammer curls, pretcher curls, cable curls

fav for tris
rope extensions, behind head extenions, lying extensions(db or pretcher bar) kick backs, close grip presses

fav for shoulders
arnold presses
anykind of lateral raises

pick and of those 3 out of each section and do 12 to 8 reps....

however don't forget to train the rest of the body...which is why i say get a program on/off here.
